Cold air intake...

Featured Replies

I have been advised the Carboni cold air intake system is the best for the Octy RS 1.8T...

WHERE WILL I GET ONE??? HOW MUCH DO THEY COST??? AND ARE THEY EASY TO FIT???

HELP

awesome gti and i think there about £200

Yep not cheap mate unfortunately, same sort of price as the BMC CDA's.

Or buy a cheap one off eBay but change the filter off it for a better one. That's what I have and works out a lot cheaper

Pardon

Are Carbonio's okay for wet conditions - ie driving through 6" of water

Do this. A pipe is a pipe in this instance, it makes no difference. Bang a good filter on there and you're away. Think mine cost £50 Plus a good filter.

Takes a couple minutes to fit (i removed battery etc for ease, not totally necessary though)

Never had any probs with wet weather as where the filter sits is in an enclosed space behind the bumper.

also if you still have the std grills in the sides then you wont get spray in there neither, If you have the milotec ones then you may get more water in there but Ive never had any trouble at all.

unless you drive throu a river up to the center of the wheels youll be fine

Is this the cone that sits low down on the righthand side in front of the righthand wheel?

If so what a waste of time!!!!! a sure way of getting shti and water into it!!!

Ive had lots of experience tuning BMW's and found that unless you wanted to go all out with something like an Alpha N system, something with a carbon airbox that is mapped to suit the best system is either leave it alone! or if you feel inclined to fiddle, go for a K&N panel type filter.

Cones arent much cop unless you like the pointless noise they make and normally if they are fitted they will draw hot air from the engine bay into the induction system actually lowering the performance over the standard paper element type filter!!

yea mate, thats y you have the CAI. it relocates the filter out of the bay into the bumper behind the horn under the battery so there is no hot air. Ive hade mine on for 2+ year now and used it all the time and Ive never had any trouble, I also have the milotec grills too which are all open and again never ne trouble, just make sure you keep it clean and dont drive throu any really deep water and its perfect. you might find tho that the car pulls harder with just the box nd a panel unless you get it remappto suit as said.

I love the sound as its not too loud and it makes the DV sound better too.

not too racerish tho.

Put the £200 towards a remap!

In fact, £200 = remap!

Can't say that is true in the case of the CAI on the Skoda VRS. Not had any experience with BMW's, but the CAI like the ABD on my VRS are top notch and as Billy states they are no where near engine to pull in hot air. Yes you can get just a cone and stick it on the end of the MAF and get hot air in, but the CAI are not those units, The CAI that that sit behind the bumper with a good air filter are good. I have mine mapped and it pulls better with the CAI then standard airbox. The CAI does not sit low enough to get water in it and is protected by being slightly inclosed behind bumper and bottom bumper arch covers. Also the better noise is a added bonus

You'd have to be driving through a ford with water almost up to the door sills to get it coming in the end of a CAI.

That said I had a CAI on my old car and it had a couple more bhp with the CAI but less peak torque than it did with an uprated panel filter in the airbox.
