Discs & Pads, How much?

Featured Replies

MOT's due in a month..

Brake performance slowly degrading and expecting something's ready for replacement. Pedal doesn't return as smooth it once did.

I was just wondering how mcuh Standard OEM discs and pads are on the vRS, anyone recently had this done?

Trying to work out roughly how much extra a 312 conversion would set me back as it would be now or never if the whole lot is up for renewal. 312 in parts I believe is around £240? So how is oem stuff in parts?

I replaced all the pads & discs on my standard 1.9TDi (the vRS uses the same stuff, IIRC) for about £100-£120 parts (all OEM stuff).

HI

No vRS pads are different and the disc sizes are different

There was abrand new set of pads on ebay for a tenner , so that was a great price

To be fait the 288`s on your car are the same as any Golf etc. but be looking at £30 ish per disc

But as I said , be aware that the Fabia vRS pads are different to the Octy and Golf ETC

312`s , quite a few have done it , but to be fair , I have the 100PD Fabia with 256mm discs , mine are superb

Just lift your foot to touch the brakes and she is all but stopping

So OEM have been known to be good on some

The discs are for the vRS are larger than the ones for the 1.9 TDI. (288mm vs 256mm) and the pads are different shape. However there is not much difference in price (it's slightly more expensive for the vRS). The rear discs and pads are the same for both.

I've just had a thought. What size of wheels have you got?

288mm or 312mm discs and callipers will probably not fit with standard 14 inch wheels. 15 inch wheels will fit onto 288 mm brakes as the 2.0l petrol Fabia has them, I'm not sure if 312mm will though.

Hmmm, interesting,

I do have faith in the 288 setup, it does the job but I can't help but feel that a larger setup would give more feed back as less pressure would be required for equivalent friction.

We'll see what Alex says when I head over to Browns. If the cost difference is as large as it sounds I can't justify it.. and it all hung on needed discs and pads anyway that I only suspect, don't know for sure. They might just need a service.

Doh ... I could have sworn they all had the same part number in the book

I had a set of 312mms fitted a few weeks ago, well worth the upgrade in my opinion. I'd be looking at something from this guy. I got my calipers from him but sourced the discs and pads from GSF supplies (£90 for the discs and £30 for the pads, whereas the 288mm discs are about £60). I had a few other bits done at Unit18 as well but fitting these was £70

so will the 100comford take the 312 upgrade?

£157 for carriers/calipers

£90 for disc

£30 for pads

~£270 + Fitting?

From the ebay link I posted it would be £215 (+£20 postage) for the 312mm calipers, carriers, discs and pads - all you need for the conversion plus the cost of fitting. I got my pads/discs separately as this deal wasn't on when I got the calipers (which have sat around for a year waiting to be fitted!).

I can't recommend this setup enough. Mine is still just bedding in and is running on OEM brembo discs and textar pads but feels fantastic in comparison to my previous 288mm setup that had only done 20k. Much more power, no fade and feel like they will stop on a 6 pence piece
