1.8 Scout V 1.9 opinions please

Featured Replies

Like some info on the 1.8 please. I've not managed to drive one yet but our Scout will ( hopefully ) have it.

Our current car has the old 1.9.

So is the 1.8 any good ? Has it any shortcomings ? Does it have plenty of torque especially low down ?

The last petrol car I had was a 1.4 Fabia. Lovely little car but gutless at low revs to the point of been lethal. Especially pulling away from islands.

Anyone out their have the 1.8 in the Scout ? Does the engine suit the Scout ?

Cheers !

My 1.8TSI Scout is about to be delivered at Emden waiting on ship.I chose the 1.8TSI because I don't do big milage (8000 per year) there is only about 8 MPG more in the TDI so it is not economic sense. Also the petrol is quieter and more acceleration.and lots of low speed grunt.

I dont like Jeremy Clarckson but he gave it a fantastic review and that is somthing he does not do, on most normal cars.

I have had my 1.8 TSI Scout since November and now done ~7000miles.

I feel the 1.8 is a great match for the car, never had any low down issues. Slightly limp below 1200RPM, but the boost and torque comes in predictably and firmly from 1200RPM onwards.

I do not tow things. Never had any trouble getting going or up hills in the snow mind.

It really is quite a quick car when you want it to be with the 1.8.
