2 New Rattles

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, had my new octavia for around 4-5 weeks now and I love everything about it. However, just today I've noticed a couple of rattles that seem to have appeared overnight......

1. A low resonance type rattle from somewhere near the centre console. Seems to occur at low speed and is a thrum more than a plastic rattle.

2. A rattle from outside / boot area when a door is closed. Close any door...hear the rattle.

Obviously, I've checked all loose items floating around in the car and pushed / pulled all obvious controls / vents etc. Only noticed them today so not had a great chance to fully isolate the noises.

Any one have any ideas / places to start?

ps....my car is an estate if that helps with rattle number 2.

Apart from a couple of rattles it's been a good start to owning the Octavia.

1 might be from around steering wheel on the black case, there's a rubber gasket towards back try moving it around the gasket that us. Fold it around etc.

2 might be the fasle boot floor if you have that fitted

James

The rattle from the rear when closing a door is the vent flap closing, caused by the change in pressure.

Open a window and then close the door - rattle will be gone.

Thanks for the replies....

Yeah my initial thought was the cubby hole on the top of the dash but I've removed my sunglasses and ruled that out. It does sound like it's coming from underneath the steering wheel somewhere so I'll check out the rubber gasket suggested by James26.

Noticed a rattle near my right ear now coming from around the door / seat belt area. Need to investigate that as well now!

Love the car but rattles are my pet hate....even if they are minor. Once I know they are there I can't stop listening for them! :wonder:

My car is at this very moment in the company of Rivervale in Portslade to have three seperate and distint rattles investigated. The first one has been therer since day one and this is attermpt number three to fix. It's a nasty annoying one on overrun and if holding on the brake. Second sounds like a loose screw in a door pocket but of course there isn't one..........three sounds like a loose screw in the jumbo box.

There is nothing worse that an annoying rattle!

Update, following the advice of James26 to check the rubber gasket on the steering column it seems readjusting the steering wheel for reach and rake and poking around with the rubber gasket it seems the major creak has gone. :D

Still working on the 2nd one around my right ear / seatbelt area.

I shall persevere!
