Pressure washer purchase

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm wanting to buy a pressure washer for cleaning the car (new vRS due in a few weeks) & for cleaning the block paving.

As there are so many models out there I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction - need a patio cleaner attachment and would like a snow foam attachment also but can't spend more that £150 in total. Dependent on price/advice I may have to forget about the snow foam

Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers,

Working backwards...

If you want a snow foam lance, then a decent one costs about £50 (incl VAT/delivery).

see http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washing-and-drying/foam-lance-various-fittings/prod_371.html

I highly recommend this one as it produces excellent foam and you can buy fittings for most pressure washers.

You can get cheaper ones, but most of them can't adjust the mix. The bottle on the Karcher is also too small to do the whole car.

There are loads of pressure washer deals that include a patio cleaner for less than £100

Pressure washer from toolbank , should be £138 n0w 105 includes patio rotary cleaner http://www.toolbank.com/p/KARK232 and your snow foam gun from here http://www.theultima...oam-lances.aspx £69 pounds ,but includes 5 liter of snow foam solution saving you £5. Once you have used a snow foam gun ,you will not believe results especially with all this sand/ ash in the air at moment . The price for these 2 are only £25 over your budget. Get a karcher i would not use cheap imitations, my last one was 14 years old and i only had to replace it because the aluminium thread where you attach gun lead had worn away, the motor was still fine and karcher customer services are second to none, sending a bag of replacement o rings free of charge to me when the machine was 9 year old

Or go for

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7151086/Trail/searchtext%3ENILFISK.htm which gives you money left over for the snowfoam lance. Just got this myself however fabia broke down day before i got it and has been in for repairs since :(

Bought one much better than the Karcher I had before. Also no need for a separate snow foam lance the bottle supplied is fantastic wish I had bought one long ago.

I have one too, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Top quality and like the poster above states is better than entry level Karcher PWs. That price is excellent too

Some points of note:

The nozzle that you'll use on the car is adjustable so you can adjust the pressure - great if you don't want to strip the paint clean off your car.

The included bottle is plenty good enough for snow foam use so save yourself £50 and don't bother with a separate snow foam lance.

This model features a long-life aluminium motor and pump, not the cheap plastic rubbish you get in most entry level PWs.

I found the patio cleaning attachment useless and just use the high pressure blasting nozzle for cleaning the block-paved driveway and other surfaces.

Don't hesitate, just get yourself one of these. I bought mine from Screwfix at Christmas and paid £120 IIRC.

Overall, very highly recommended

Well last time i used the nozzle to clean the front side and back of house took 3 and a half hours ,used the patio cleaner and it took45 mins. A nozzle is like ****ing in snow ,you have to go over and over Edit notice you were talking about the nilfisk patio cleaner. My last Karcher was the top of the range but my mate at the time was a store manager for Halfords so got half price ,this time i bought cheaper but it was worth it alone for the patio cleaner

...The included bottle is plenty good enough for snow foam use so save yourself £50 and don't bother with a separate snow foam lance...

These and other cheap snow foam lances seem to work OK, until you compare tham to a better one.

A group of use got together to order a 20+ 5l bottles of snowfoam (to save on postage). When it arrived we all washed our cars with the same snow foam to see which of the lances worked best.

It was scientific(ish).

The first thing to note was the three expensive lances used slightly less snow foam. Not really important as some of the lances were free so it would take forever to save the cost of an expensive lance. They also took slightly less time to foam the cars.

It soon became clear why the expensive lances are worth the money. The foam stayed on the car so much longer. Looking down the street you could see the three guys who had the expensive lances - their cars were still white. These same guys ended up with cleaner cars. At the end of the day that's what it's all about.

I just bought one of those, you're right it does seem pretty good, nice and small as well

Just catching up with this thread. Anyone got a close look at this weeks Aldi special as yet - some stores allegedly had them in early...

http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_13937.htm

Nice power rating and i know Baker21 has one of the older models which does the business on his mega detailing sessions.

My old Powercraft 2kW pressure washer has finally been struck down due to frost damage i suspect - so i'm intending to go

for one of these.

Any comments welcome folks.

Cheers,

Ste.

Funny you should post this up Ste as would you believe my trusty old machine has developed a 'cough' and has packed up, I think it's safe to day it's done me well and I am now using a more expensive Karcher but am borrowing this one in the short term, just about to order a new one this week but I am undecided, not seen any discussion on DW about this Aldi pressure washer but will do some digging, to be honest mate if you can stump up another £10 or so then this might be a better buy:

(Granted it's currently out of stock but I know they are due back in)

UPDATE!!!!

This is mainly for Ste but other's may find this interesting also..........

I remembered last night that I still had the box with the receipt for my Powercraft Pressure Washer and would you believe it still has 1 more year's warranty on it, I had heard that Powercraft had gone bump but after a call to their claims number I found myself talking to a woman only down the road in Banbury who is working for Karcher would you believe. As those of you will know the Powercraft units were made by Karcher for Aldi and this year Aldi have decided to source the units from elsewhere.

Anyway, I have someone picking up my unit tomorrow to be taken away and diagnosed, hopefully repaired and returned or replaced.

Funny thing is I now have a brand new Nilfisk being delivered today........... :giggle:

I don't suppose you have your receipt Ste?

Cheers for the update Baker21. I might have the receipt somewhere - but i'm being honest and admitting that the damage on mine is most likely to be frost damage which has caused a leak internally somewhere. Maybe i should give it a try though - as i am only 18 months into ownership and the warranty is 3 years. Not sure what charges might be incurred but - i'll search for the receipt first!!!

I have bought the new Aldo one and seems to be ok. Louder beast, but more compact - may have been good for your traveling details etc Simon? The accessories are all the slightly different Karcher style notches - so just swapped out the main hose for my 10m job and all is well with my current karcher lance and snow foam bottle. Happy enough for £59.99!!!

Let me know how you get on with the repair...... i'll go a searching for the receipt!!! lol

Cheers,

Ste.

To be honest mate I wouldn't mention anything as too why it's failed, that's their job to test it and report the failure mode, collection is free as is the inspection, if I were you I would get it looked at, as if you can get it repaired or replaced then you could easily sell it on for a few quid or keep it as a working spare for the future.

Nilfisk is at home in the garage now and the Powercraft units were collected this morning, so wil let you know how I get on.........

Ok Simon - i'll give it a go...... providing the receipt turns up. Thanks for the info as always.

Have a good holiday weekend matie.

Bought the Aldi one yesterday and patio attatchment too, havent used them yet, having an outside tap fitted on tuesday, got them out the box and they look and feel miles better than my parents little karcher, cant wait to give it a go.

Does anyone know if these Aldi ones use the same attachment as Karcher ?

My Karcher stopped playing ball last weekend, hoping its fixable as I've got a foam lance attachment for it.

Aldi one seems good valye mind you......

UPDATE!!

Well both of the Powercraft machines I had have been collected and I am just awaiting to be called by the repair centre now to let me know the score, so as soon as I know I will update you guys...........

I used my new Nilfisk on Friday afternoon and have to say I am very impressed with the machine, packaging was good, well built, built in hose real is very useful, clipping mechanism for the lance is also very useful, pressure seems OK, little less than the Powercraft but with the advantage of being quieter due to the motor size, foam lance attachment has arrived at work today so it will get it's first outing this weekend.........

Hi Simon - sorry for the delay on the update. No sign of the receipts - very annoying. I also have another ALDI product just died and again - i've misplaced receipts.

I'm having a bad week!!! Bugger!!!!!

On the latest Aldi Pressure washer. Thus far i'm happy. 3 guys at the office have bought them too and been impressed especially with the patio cleaner.

For those with old Karchers thinking of upgrading - the main hose connector on the Aldi unit was the same as my old unit. So Karcher hose and therefore accessories all transferred over ok.

Those buying first time - the Aldi unit does come with one of the cheap basic snow foam bottles included to get you started. Not the best but worth trying to seem the effect.

I hope this helps anyone still looking into this. My local Aldi sold out the first week but got an extra pallet of them in the following week. :-)

Cheers
