Service Question

Featured Replies

I have a 2006 Octavia 2.0 TDi PD manual on variable servicing. It was last serviced in August 2008 when it had 18,800 miles. It's now on 36,800 and the service indicator says it's 600 miles or 94 days from a service. The car has a pretty easy life, it does a 50 mile round trip a day mostly on Motorways and dual carriageways, and doesn't move from Friday evening to Monday morning, so I wasn't sure how long it would be before the next service was due but 19,000 miles and 21 months was longer then I was expecting

At the last service it had the oil and brake fluid changed and the inspection service, so this time I'm assuming it will need the '60,000 km or 4 year' service. How much approximately will this cost at a main dealer?

The service schedule says the cam belt doesn't need doing until 120,000 km, but I've spoken to a number of people who suggest that is on the generous side, and that it should be done after four years regardless. Does the cam belt really only guarantee you 4 years of safe operation, and if so, how much should I do looking at to replace it?

Cheers in advance!

With that type of driving on variable you would expect to get the maximum mileage between services. I think it is 18,600 miles or 24 months whatever comes first.

Can't answer the other questions, over to the rest of the forum ...

The variable service interval is up to 30,00 miles or 24 months. Whichever comes first.

Cam belt, idler pulleys etc. They've brought the interval down to (I think), 60,000 miles or 4 years. Whichever comes first.

Check the other threads on this forum for more advice. At the same time get the water pump replaced with one with a metal impeller.

I have a Sept 2005 Octavia 2.0 TDi PD manual on variable servicing. Got mine done by a local independant after a few quotes.

Cost for mine Sept 09 was Parts £144.60, Labour £175.00, MOT at same time £54.00(no VAT). Total £319.60 + £47.94vat = £421.54

Makes the car not as cheap to run as you might think.

My turbo is making a low noised police siren type noise. Some say theyr's has been like that for ever others say it's about to go :o(

Good luck

Variable servicing is what it says 'variable'.

Depending on the type of journeys and your driving style will affect how many miles before the next service. The maximum interval will be 30000km, which is about 18650 miles.

Brake fluid change is every 2 years.

I've just checked the Skoda variable Servicing and long life oil leaflet that came with my Sept 2005 Octavia 2.0 TDi PD manual on variable servicing.

It is up to 30,00 miles or 24 months. Not 30,000km

Variable servicing on the MK1 Octavia was 30000 miles on the MK2 PD it is 30000km.
