Wheel bearing

Featured Replies

How hard is it to change a front wheel bearing on a octavia 03 tdi? I am sure I could do it but are there any special tools needed etc?

A press would certainly help you.... although you could possibly do without. Take care not to damage (ie. bend) the ABS ring.

I replaced my front wheel bearings last year on my 04 octy vrs, i used a press(wouldnt do the job without one personally) only problems i had was getting the old bearing race off the hub as you cant get a normal puller on it as the abs ring is in the way! i had to cut mine off in the end. not a bad job to do if your mechanically minded (im a mechanic) :)

Thanks for the info, Do you need the press to put the new bearing back in or remove them? I have had a look on eurocar parts and they have two at different prices £23 and £32, would there be much difference in quality or is it not worth the small extra charge?

Cheers guys

i used the press to press the old bearings out & to press the new ones in,i personally would buy the better quality bearing,i made the mistake of fitting a cheap bearing & it only lasted a year!

a good vise will press the bearing in and out for you
