Are there any alternatives to the self adhesive strips on headlights for continental travel (France) barring swopping the headlight units out ?

I've always found the strips next to useless as have oncoming french expressway drivers judging by their signals. That's despite fixing per directions.

Any new french road traffic regs this year ?

What sort of car? Most or all Skodas have a lever to switch the headlights to left hand drive and I can't believe it's the only brand with this facility.

Really ? Where located ?

Only headlight control that I 'm aware of is the beam height control l on dashboard of my Fab.

Unless the higher priced models have the corner tracking type headlight units, I would have thought there was no adjustment, and I would have thought that has marginal application in this case bearing in mind that you need to switch the direction of the beam by about 60 degrees

Explain.

I think a bit more research will reveal that this only applies to cars with factory Xenons.

I don't have those. They're standard Roomster projector lights with halogen bulbs. When I take the rubber cap off the back of each headlight there is a silver coloured lever that cuts off the left offset when moved over. Strangely I don't seem to be able to find it in the manual. It was my dealer who showed them to me.

I can't tell you if other Skodas have a similar system but I guess the Fabia might because it virtually shares the same front end.

I'll have a look if I remember.

I'll check it out. But i'm not confident, 'cause even if you could move the bulb position, the internal reflecting surfaces (plastic) in the lamp are angled one way. So even if the light coming out the front of the bulb is re-positioned, I would guess light emitting from the sides of the cylindrical bulb will hit the fixed reflecting surfaces and be projected from the lense in much the same way i.e. dazzle oncoming continental traffic.

If it is availbale on my Fab it'll probably just be a factory setting, not designed to be robust enough for regular switching.

Obviously proof of the pudding etc. Have you had the opportunity to test this on the continent ?

If so, did you get any adverse reactions ?

Postscript

Just checked the Haynes manual, this facility on the Fabia is restricted to gas-discharge headlamps (Xenons) and is actuated using a screwdriver - position down for driving on the right.

Mine are Halogen. You'd have to retrofit with entire new headlight assemblies - german origin ones on e-bay @ £349 a pair. Ouch ! These ones didn't have height adjustment facility either.
