1.4 Skoda Classic - Any hope?

Featured Replies

I see alot of you guys have vRS's well that was my first choice  but being a poor student with insurance premiums to worry about i went for the 1.4 Skoda (not the 16V version either :( )

I know its not the fastest car in the world and i've had a browse round the mod sticky. But i was wondering if there was anything i could really do to it to beef it up a little. Of course i don't want to spend silly money but i also know that performance comes at a price.

So is there any point in trying to mod a 1.4 or should i wait until i can afford a vRS?

Cheers

GFS

Drove a 1.4 Blackline Ltd.Ed. for 3yrs before a change in job forced the need for a 2nd car and I was blessed with my VRS. Stick with the classic and rack up the no claims for your VRS future

Do a couple of styling bit if you want to make it individual but dont worry about tuning it. Just use it and save the money and build up your no claims bonus. OK they dont set the world alight speed wise but its still a very good car.

You can do a few things...induction, exhaust, set of racing cams...probably looking at about

GFS - i too am your humble 18year old student...with a 1.4 metallic green classic...the 8v version...

theres essentially buggery all you can do to make it go quicker, its rather a fruitless and horrifically expensive affair.

that said. my humble classic has done 110mph, if not more.

do what i did. have a few 'advanced driving' lessons. and a day out in a rally car. far better than any 'mods' and certainly made me a better/faster driver.

incidentally. i'm now buying an SV650 to go 'fast' alllbeit on two wheels not 4...

can always take the back seats out and the parcel shelf...strip some weight off it. sort the front end out with thicker ARB and strut braces. check tyre pressures.

Cheers for the advice guys,

Yeah i think its best to stick with it for the time being then :(

Camerashy- how did you get 110Mph were you going downhill? i think i have only just topped 100.

heh. lets just say that long straight roads cough...and being in the wake of an RS6 helps ;)

Engine wise there isn't a great deal of value for money mods, but you can change the suspension to make the car handle and also look at a thicker front ARB and maybe struts. Whether it's worth doing, I can't say but you might just be better off putting the money into a savings account :D

As has already been said, your choice of mods is fairly limited... styling-wise you can change the wheels, and suspension, maybe add some tints and deffo. upgrade the ICE. Anything else is a major expensive for very little gain...

Having said that, my 1.4 goes alright usually... ;)

The ICE is definately getting changed, with loads of sound proofing in the doors too :)

I only added a sub to mine and left the other speakers as they are. With the nice Sony HU I got from Andy_CCR, it certainly belts out the tunes when you want them ;)

The Fabia 1.4 8V is a perfectly good little car. It has all the power you need to drive a car as a means of transport. It will cope with urban and rural and even long distance M-way cruising. My only criticism of the Furby 1.4 8V Classic is that it is very basic. It really is in terms of power/performance, and equipment little different or better than the Felicia 1.3 Classic was before it (basically same engine bored out slightly, but Fabia is heavier than the Felicia so you end up with nearly identicle performance figures).

Good stuff Stimps, what amp are you running or is it an active subwoofer?

There's a smallish sony amp in there as well - somewhere around 200w I think. It's powerful enough to run the sub so I can hear it, without setting off car alarms as I drive along :)

On the performance front, it gets to 85/90 pretty quickly and cruises there, which is good enough for me. Plus it gets me past other cars when I feel like overtaking... Perhaps with a little more forward thinking and planning involved than if I had a vRS... :D
