Just been on Ebay, there was a BNIB Bolero on sale, so close, but not quick enough, as always with Ebay, it jumped from £132 to £205 in the last 10 seconds, but then £205 is still a bargain - well done whoever won that (if its someone on this forum)

Anyway, this led to be to a different question, I have been reading posts about removing the Swing unit from Octavia but not on a Yeti, is it the same? Do I have to remove the outer plastic trim then everything else is just the same as any other car?

The one reserve I have is after I have upgraded it myself, it would start to rattle, which is no good then!!

I am also wondering where could I get the security code for my unit now? It says on the handbook something along the line of "you don't need it, if your battery dies, go to the dealer"......

Is that right? Thanks

If the radio was installed at the factory, the security code is easy - last four digits of the serial number of the vehicle.

Its hard to say whether they are good or not, on the one hand, I find them quite adequate and the standard front speakers are fine - to be honest I didn't much expectations after knowing all four speakers are in the front. But I suppose having only needed to drive bass and the tweeter seperately, it gives quite a high quality sound - ie it is relatively chrisp in low volume, especially on Radio 4, a bit like a 5-6 year olds Mercedes standard system - acurate but not overly powering.

The reason I am thinking about upgrading is because of the looks, I think the Swing looks fine and suit the car, but I fancy a touch screen and most importantly the SD card slot! I don't fancy paying around £180 for all the kit and fit the MDI when buying a Bolero with SD card slot and selling the Swing might cost around the same but looks a lot fancier.

But again I am contemplating about not spending any of this at all and just concentrate on sorting out the rear speakers first........

And this VIN number has to be printed visually in the windscreen for any crook to see?!?!! Surely that can't be true? Or do Skodas not have a visible VIN number in the windscreen? Or is the "serial number" something else?

I suspect that, like most other pin protected goods, you can change the pin; so setting it to a default pin is normal, tailoring to the car vin is slightly better as most thieves would'nt think to copy down the vin number before smashing the windscreen.

Well once something like that is in the public domain thieves will know to copy that number at the same time as stealing the radio (via a side window - they hardly ever get in via the windscreen, though I have seen it done).

And since this Bolero is also the VW 510 and who knows what in a Seat or Audi there are many, many cars now in which the unit will fit making it even more prone to be stolen...

Sorry to be a geek, but surely working on "asymentric information", the thieves that want to steal the radio wouldn't know which Skoda has changes their radio code and therefore without this information, they might treat all the Skoda's or cars with caution. I think the Sat Navs, Sunglasses(?) are still on top of the list?

On a similar, but different note, how dfficult is it to remove the stereo from the Skoda, I was looking somewhere, the picture shows that the dash has to be removed!?!?!?!

According to the Police very few radios are stolen these days, especially from newer cars, as the mountings and facias are nearly always unique, so they are not compatible.

Dead easy - not even 5 mins.

Remove the fascia trim, remove a bit more trim from the head unit, exposing 4 x bolts to undo. Unclip aerial and quadlock connectors and you are done.

Brilliant, thanks, will have a go if I decide to get an update.

I might put the rear speakers installation on hold, possibly after the warranty has finished.
