VRS Advice please

Featured Replies

Hi i currently have a fabia vrs and my dad decided to take me along today on his search for a new car.

After checking out what felt like 3 million cars we finished the day at my local skoda dealership with the intention of having a look at the Octavia Elegance.

To cut a long story very short he didnt like it but a birght yellow vrs caught his eye. We've decided that he would be better of with the diesel engine due to the fact he does a lot of miles but i'm wondering if anyone with one can give me a real world review? Especially im interested in what kind of mpg your achieving?

Thanks

Ben

I don't have a vRS (yet, as I'm waiting for mine)

But I can give you some real world on the diesel variant.

My current car is a 2.0 PD 140 with a DSG gearbox. To top off your main point - consumption. Commuting back and forth to work (M4 and a dual carriageway, 32 miles) I get between 49 and 57mpg (indicated by the car computer) depending on what kind of mood i'm in. Easily get into the mid+ 50's when cruising at around 72mph (indicated)

I assume your dad currently drives a petrol car? The key things to watch out with the diesel in terms of day to day running: -

If he is buying a brand new one (or near new) it will likely have a DPF in there which will require some long driving, but as you have indicated in your post that he does a lot of miles, then this should not be a problem.

I think there are a few common things to watch for on the diesel models - on the PD140 specifically it can be turbo's, EGR or DMF, however I haven't had any of these issues with my car (I have 51,500 miles on mine, 06)

Is your dad after a brand new one?

Yeh he is.

I know Skoda turbo's very well as my fabia's went pop a few weeks back.

At the moment he is driving a Citroen C4 diesel (does about 20k ish a year in terms of miles).

I have the VRS pd and manage around 42-45mpg on my normal drive to work (10 miles and a mix of motorway, A and B roads. On a long run I just about get 50mpg and the best I have achieved is 55mpg.. I have just ordered a new CR VRS and I expect to get a little more mpg but not loads more. So expect between 45-55mpg depending on style of driving and rads/traffic.

He will average 42 mpg.

Long term average for my PD vRS was 42 mpg (mixed driving). For my CR vRS about 43.5 mpg (only 5,500 miles on the clock though).
