Power Steering Fluid

Featured Replies

Checked the steering fluid and it was a little low. Called my nearest Skoda dealer (20 miles away), Grey Gables and they were helpful and told me which one to get. VAG number G004000M2. Popped into my local VW dealer (1 mile away) and asked for said fluid. Parts man says yes its in stock, what car is it for? I told him and got the response " I have no way of telling if it is correct for the car, do you still want to buy it? I explained that the Skoda dealer had given me the VAG number etc and didnt want him to confirm whether it was correct or not. Anyway I bought the fluid and its the right one. I can understand that the guy didnt want me to put the wrong fluid in but I was surprised that they wouldnt have a list of vehicles in the VAG that it is suitable for.

its a vw dealer mate they have nothing to do with skoda, yes we all know its the same fluid but if he'd have said yes its right then something went wrong 6 months down the line it would fall back to him thats why he would have been reluctant to commit to anything, wheres theres blame and all that!

I had this kind of thing a few times in the past, to the point where I used to say it was Golf, A4, or Leon, as some of them refused to sell stuff to me

I needed some on Monday as mine was low.VW and Skoda dealer were shut till 11am but Audi dealer was open so popped in there. My handbook stated G002 was needed but they only had G004 on the shelf so i had to pop to Halfords.

Has G004 replaced G002 as the one 1 got is ok for G002?

Halfords charged me £15 for a litre.

I use to go to parts counters at dealers and expect them to be most authorative on their spares and applications but in reality they know how to use EKTA and that's that. I ordered some power steering fluid and antifreeze. For some reason when I went to collect there were I three litres of each (right spec). At the time I wasn't aware of the capacities for these fluids but have since found that one of each would have sufficed, so have kept the others for spare.

There are a few anomolies, you can get brake caliper piston kits from Skoda for the Felicia, if you need one for a VW Caddy pick up (which is a re badged Felicia) and give VW the part number, they are not allowed to order it and they can only supply you with a complete caliper.

the vw dealer can only order parts recognised by their vw ETKA, all other parts are brand inhibited. i dont have this problem at tps because we do all the vag group. the problem is ETKA doesnt give filling quantities on things like the PAS system but to supply 3 litres is very excessive. on ETKA there is only 1 type of PAS which is the G 004 000 M2 which goes in pretty much everything
