Opinions needed....

Featured Replies

Hi

I've a 1.4 16v Octy that I can't find much information about. She's been off the road for good 6 or so months now. Trying to decide where to go from here...sell or keep....

She's got 90k miles on the clock and needs replacement shocks to go back on the road. Has the common idling issue (ok-ish after a load of carb cleaner) ; keeps going through 1l of oil in 1k - 1.5k miles ; rear doors are deadlocked (both...lock motors seem to be gone).

Otherwise drives fine :)

It's fine for driving around town and the occasional longer drive but do admit that the engine is very weak.....don't know what kind of a muppet decided to put a 1.4 into a car this size OR why on earth did I buy it in the first place....

It should be obvious to just get a new car with a bigger engine but it's going to cost me more than I'd like....

What are the main issues with given engine (AUB me thinks)? I do rev it quite a bit...just to get it moving.... A mechanic I know has told me that due to the engine's small size and the car being big the revving is eventually gonna kill it.....not sure how true but the last thing I want is basically driving something I know will die just because of the way I drive it.....

Any opinions would be appreciated. Especially engine related. If anybody has any experience with a 1.4 16v lump (even better if in an Octavia) please leave your comments.

PS! sorry for missing commas.....keyboard gave up today :D
