Common Rail Scout

Featured Replies

Just to let you know, I placed an order for a common rail Scout today - delivery expected end of September.

Skoda's info is that the CO2 emissions drop from 173g/km to 155g/km on the Scout, and I assume that this is down to the engine change i.e. there is a corresponding improvement in fuel consumption.

The new engine has a small price hike - £160 on my order.

Regards,

Les.

I ordered my Scout a few weeks ago, but Westend Skoda (Broxburn) was on the ball and delayed/paused processing it so that my build week was post week 22 to ensure I got the CR engine. Got an email today saying my order has been accepted as week 23 and should have the car by end of June - delighted. The emisson change should bring it down a VEL band too!

Is the DSG going to become availble with the CR engine (just out of interest - my PD is only 5 months old, so I'm not changing soon....)?

I wont be changing mine any time ever either, but if it had been TSI vs CR when I was choosing I would probably have gone CR.

Sod's Law that just as I get my 1.8 TSI Scout they finally bring out the CR engine (for which I had been holding out for well over a year). I also would have opted for the CR engine if it had been available when ordering. Nevertheless I am absolutely delighted with my 1.8 TSI and the envy towards the soon-to-be Scout CR owners is only fleeting.

My PD Scout (ordered March 31st) is due at the end of august. Is it worth me changing my order to CR?

I think I've answered my own question by google searching.

This was an interesting (if a little nerdy):

Worth trying to test drive both sorts of engine. Bit difficult of course with no CR Octys available yet, so I chose to test a 140CR Yeti and a 140PD Scout. Mechnically very simmilar apart from the engine and bodywork. People will have different expectations and preferences, but I chose the PD and ordered an Octy 4x4 which I now have. Interestingly many reports are praising the VAG CR for being smoth and quite, but a lot of reports on the Yeti say thats its a bit gruff and noisy. Maybee its down to less soundproofing in the Skodas? I personally didnt think there was much difference betwwen the Yeti and the Scout (in terms of noise etc) untill you got the revs fairly high, which is not the way I tend to drive. PD felt more responsive a quicker from low revs, which is the way I tend to drive. Of course we dont know what the CR will be like in the Octavia yet, but I suspect simmilar to the Yeti. For what its worth I also think the 8v engine with DPF fitted to the 4x4 and Scout seems more flexible at lower revs than the the 16v unit

Can I ask any of the folks who've ordered a CR Scout:

1) Is the new engine still included in the current "VAT Free" offer?

2) Is only the 140 CR engine coming for the Scout, or the 170 as well?

Thanks.

Yes it's in the VAT free offer until the end of June. Note that its possible the VAT rate will increase soon depending on Dave C and Nick C - so not sure how that will impact. I assume the buyer will be liable for the increase at the time of delivery.

Only the CRD 140 available as far as I am aware.

I suspect the dealer will adjust the discount you get... I ordered mine in September last year when VAT was still at 15%, I collected the car in January when the VAT rate was 17.5%.

The price on the invoice was adjusted so the final price was the price agreed at order time, as it's not actually VAT free, it's a discount equivalent to the rate of VAT...

I may be wrong on this, but the impression I got when ordering was that all diesel Scouts built as of week 22, will have the CR engine rather than the PD. So there will still only be one diesel option- the CR.

I came to the conclusion that, knowing my wife, the PD was less "sensitive" (read destructive) to petrol being pumped by accident :giggle:

Curious, as it wasn't mentioned when I ordered mine. :wonder:

I wouldn't be surprised if the salesman didn't even know at that time... As far as he's concerend, you're ordering a 2litre 140bhp diesel...

I had to point out to mine that the factory bluetooth wouldn't work with my phone after reading the brochure and seeing it used rSAP. He said it would so we went and tried it on the Superb in the showroom...

I think if you definitely want the CRD engine, you have to specify it at the moment.

My order was delayed until the option was available on the 'system'.

There are delays on the PD engines - I don't know whether they will build CR and PD in parallel (as they do petrols and diesels normally) or serial.

All the best,

Les.
