Door speakers.

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a set of really nice vibe speakers I would like to fit into my car and was wondering how you take off the door cards? All I can see is 4 screws. Is that it or is there a lot more to it?

Also on a side note... when the traction control is on, is the light meant to be on or off?

Thanks,

Damian.

light should be off

traction on = light off mate

Thought that. Had a hazard logo in the center of it so thought it can't possibly still be on, lost the back end whilst going around a round about in it though and that was with traction on.

So what about taking of the door cars. How do I do that?

Try uncliping the speaker grill before removing the door card. If you cant get to all the screws which hold the speaker in then the door card will have to be removed.

Unfortunatly it has torx fastners around the door panel. To do the job you will have to also unclip the door handle cover, electric window(s) switch, the tweeter, electric mirror switch, and finaly the door light.

Once these have been removed there is a crosshead screw near the internal door pull and 2 or 3 big crosshead screws (depending which side door) where the door handle is which holds the door card to the actual door. Once all these have been removed gently pull the door card upwards out the recess it sits in. Once it is away then you will have to unclip the cable which operates the internal door pull. I found having the window down more helpful to do this bit.

It should now be clear from the door and you will be able to replace the door speakers.

Hope this helps you. ;)

To confirm you can remove the speakers without taking the door cards off.

Prise off the mesh covers and the are four cross point screws holding the speaker in place.

Cheers all for the advice. Sounds like this should be the easy way lol. Do you know what connection the speaker has?

You can buy adaptors off ebay if you don't want to chop up your loom. Standard VW connections on mine but my car is an early octy.

The traction control won't make any difference to the rear wheels, only the front ones

+1 - It really is a traction control system, not an Electronic Stability (control) Program.

Just changed the speakers. The previous owner had already put in some pioneer ones - out yah go! But my speakers are way to deep though, so they have just been rammed in there and holding of one screw. No play in them though.

I noticed on the standard stereo that were release pins go in there not right on the edge but set in a bit. Will this cause a problem when it comes to switching over the head unit?

Did you put the tweeters in the standard location? I have some rainbow speakers but running standard tweeters as the rainbow tweeters won't fit.

Just as long as you get the right release keys, I found the Kenwood ones from Halfords do the trick. The release key holes may be set in a bit on the OEM stereo but the clips that they release are on the outside edge of the stereo the same as they would be on an aftermarket stereo.
