Best way to get Top Dead Centre (TDC) 1.3mpi no distributor

Featured Replies

Just got round to changing my timing chain. One problem, as far as I'm aware engines without a distributor don't have timing markings on the crankshaft pulley.

Anyone got any tips for achieving TDC (top dead Center). The process mentioned in the Haynes Manuel doesn't seem massively accurate.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I think the critical thing is the markings on the timing chain gear.

So I can get away with skipping that step? Sorry bit of a newbie.

No, you can't skip that step as such, make sure that you note the position of the keyways on the crank and cam sprockets BEFORE you remove them. Take a picture if you're unsure. Then you should be able to replace them without issue - the dots on the sprockets will help in this respect, but double-check everything at each stage and you should be fine.
