v6 tdi pump timing

hi all thought i would try over on your forums as the audi vagcom forum isnt too lively and you guys seem to know your stuff and my dad has a fabia tdi so its in the family!

whilst trying to adjust timing as im having cold start problem i get in the result part of tdi graph "please wait for timing to fully retard" or something close(cant remember exactly!) i get the yellow line on the very left hand side of the graph just below the red line and when it changes engine revs it disapears completely. it sometimes comes across to the right a bit but not for long. pully is right round on the bolts in the clockwise direction and doesnt like going anti clockwise, if it would go past the stops its on maybe the yellow lines would come into the graph? when its ticking over duty cycle on graph is 69 and timing is -5.2 and the 4 boxes in basic settings read 835/min, late, -5.0 btdc, 71% then when tickover rises it reads duty cycle 15 timing 14 and early,15.4 btdc and 14.2% in basic settings. i take it the revs are supposed to go up and down and should i see the yellow lines in the graph more?
