Reverting from specialist type paint treatments

Featured Replies

Interested to hear views on reverting back to normal wax/ polish/sealant applications on vehicles that have had the Supaguard/ Diamondbrite/ GardX type treatments. What sort of pre prep., if any, would you carry out? No doubt many have done it.

Clay bar the whole car

Wash

Clay again

Polish

Glaze

Sealer

Wax

To be perfectly honest just carry on as if that sort of treatment hasn't been applied!...most of what you read from the manufacturer is a load of cobblers to be polite.

Also depends on what products you have obviously but if the car hasn't been clayed since before the winter I'd suggest starting with that, then move onto a polish and wax or sealant so something like AG Super Resin Polish followed by AG Extra Gloss Protection - a good, cheap and underrated combo...the SRP offers some filling abilites to mask some of the swirls you'll inevitably have and the EGP offers the protection element.

You may find that some people put a wax over the above but this IMO is an unneccessary step as the EGP is a sealant and offers good protection on it's own.

Every 4-6weeks all you need to do is top up the protection with another layer of EGP.

My car has had its recommended monthly conserver top up and the surface is very smooth so certainly no extreme claying required, there is a good base. I've got to the stage of ordering more of the conserver or reverting to the 'normal' tried and trusted methods. I have the Klasse twins hidden away somewhere (all in one and sealant) and some P21S - all a few years old now. The paint treatment was included 'free' in the deal when I bought the car.

In A. E. recently they rated Simoniz Original Wax the number one which surprised me although I tend to take their findings with the proverbial pinch of salt - I recall using that decades ago, a real hard work product but with good results.

Which route to take - decision time.

Pretty sure as soon as you whip out the polisher you'll remove anything they've applied.

Mine's always to hand - elbow grease. :giggle:

Like with many things in these Magazine's they are not well informed, recent A/E tests compared polishes under the 'wax' category.................. :o

Sounds like a some Klasse followed by some P21s will be more than enough............
