K and N new air take system installed

For those of you that may want a bit more power but not have lots more noise.

57S new kit

How does that gain you anything over a normal air box and a clean paper filter?

I was thinking the same.

But is that a pipe sticking out the bottom or are my eyes deceiving me

Yes pipe on down side. It has conical in side the box and the gains claim about 10 bhp according to K and N. It is definetely a bit more pokier on acceleration

is that justa k&N replacement air box with a panel filter. if so id only expect minimal gains.

Id be surprised to see 10bhp from that

I only got 8bhp and 12lb/ft iirc with EVOMS

8Hp is low for a good intake gains though. k04 guys are seeing upto 20Hp gains on the evoms itg and twintake. k03 guys seem to make between 8-15hp gains.

Redrobin made 20Hp on jkms rollers at stage 2 with before and after runs on the same day. my ITG made 9hp over that code red induction kit i had which isnt bad considering that made about 5hp over stock intake. (same rollers used for all tests-DD rollers at alan jeffreys, plymouth)

but i agree,i cant see that K7N making more than 3-5 Hp

That was 8Bhp & 12lb/ft without a remap :p

With the Remap i got 13bhp and 18lb/ft :p

It is similar to the evoms - they claim just has the cover over the conical air filter

Out of interest, how does the air flo reach the filter?

I'd expect no gains there over a clean paper filter (or if you must a K&N panel) in the original air box. If anything as the temperatures go up, I'd expect power loss due to heat soak.

The OEM air box has a pipe coming from the grill at the front of the car that brings in cold outside air very well. (Well on the dervs anyway)

Same on proper fuel as well Cheeze

@OP - As long as your happy with it mate thats all that counts. Im just dubious as to the 10bhp claim from K&N

Need to get mine on rollers then we can get a good idea of what produces what ona standard car :)

It is right at the front at the base of the honey cone grill may re do it to fit into the actual air intake the car uses. Any way if it proves to be crap once I have had it dynoed I will sell i on ebay and put the stock back on.

As said, as long as you're happy, but IMHO an air intake is rarely going to give you power gains.

A nice noise maybe, but as long as you were not expecting a power jump and you're happy, what does it matter :)
