Over the past three months ive rebuilt the side of my car after a van pulled out and hit the side (while the other half was driving), i didnt claim on the insurance because it was a thousand pound excess and they are still contesting despite a witness on their side confirming our story.

As a mouse clicker without any experiance it hasnt been a simple task

So far Ive taken all the bits off the old door and built up a new door, had a wing sprayed and put it on, repaired the rear door, changed the wishbone bushes and some other bits and bobs. Had to get a new rad because of a leak and get that and the cambelt done by a garage. Needed a new battery because the car had been stood for some time too.

Went to pick it up last night and got them to check the alignment, its out by a mile, probably because of the impact on the front wheel, looks like it needs a shocker or maybe more :'(

Needs two new tyres as well but ive now spent every single penny i have, it will have to wait till payday.

probably should have spent the grand and got a proper job done! why is it so expensive anyway?

I did exactly the same as you. I'm young and the last thing I wanted was to lose what no claims I had. I spent around £1k to rebuild the suspension on the front drivers side, new driver door, bodywork prep and spray and a new alloy. That was a few years ago.

jeeez....brave to do it with no experience but fair play to you mate!! 1k excess tho?? emoticon-0104-surprised.gif .... i only bought a furby cos it was cheap to run, even performance/sports cars ive had in the past have never been that bad but im 29 so i guess thatl be why emoticon-0112-wondering.gif ....emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I had 10 years no claims but was insured on the ex's policy, it was a long standing thing, when i was 19 my insurance was cheaper if the other half insured the car. 10 years later we had two sets of insurance both in her name both with 10 years no claims. We seperate and i cant take her no claims with me :'(

so i start again with no ncd!

I add my other half to the insurance and she has an accident, it happens. As I couldnt afford the excess i couldnt repair the car. So I lent a cheap run around to get me through until the third party pay out. 7 months later i realise that it could be a long time until they pay out and my mum lends me some money to get the car back on the road and i rebuild the car.

Just insured it, last time it was 650 quid, the time before that it was 450, this time its cost me 1200 pounds to insure the fabia!
