90BHP octy 1 VNT fault cured

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just thought i would drop a message to say, for the past 6 month or so, i have been living with the dreaded overboost problem, and after having the car on vag-com, and the fault code for the N75 come up, i figured i would drop the turbo off and clean out the VNT mechanism first (im a mechanic)

After firstly confirming the car had the VNT turbo, bearing in mind its a 2002 90BHP, i set about pulling the turbo off, after opening it up, i was expecting to find it packed full of carbon, so was suprised to find that the VNT vanes were relativly free, if just a little stiff, not expecting much of a cure, i stripped and cleaned the mechanism, popped it all back together and et voila

at first i thought i was imagining it, but the throttle response, and aceleration is amazing, the car has never run so well, i only expected it to cure the boost problem, so was amazed to find the car drives 10 times better, and it would seem the MPG has gone up by a couple of miles to the gallon

Wel chuffed

Nice result. I think light surface corrosion probably stiffens them up as much as soot etc.

most of the ones i do now are mainly due to rust inside the housing that causes the ring to jam, usual telltale is is a boost cut when the engine is stone cold and working perfectly when red hot as the stainless ring expands at a faster rate than the housing does
