WHAT do I dooooo?

Featured Replies

Right - Been on the phone to LV this morning and I have good news and bad news....

Good news is: :woot: Anyone with an existing policy from March 03 to November 04 (yes, THAT recent) where modifications were agreed as per the "anything but cc alterations" still applies for the foreseeable future! This was clarified for me, and it was mentioned it would be the same for anyone else too.

Bad News: (obviously) is that LV won't take new customers with mods now - I recommend using Chris Knott for this now. (google for them!)

Trouble is I got my excess upped with LV to

go chris knott. i think lv dont know what they are up to at the moment.. mine is up for renewal next week....

lv arnt the most reputable.

i mean im only payng 360 ish on the vrs at 24 with 6 points and 4 years ncb

If you are going to leave your car as it is, Jason, then why move? LV's cover and service is good as you have already found out. However if you intend doing any more mods, you will have to change.

J,

had you declared your mods to LV in the first place?

I ask this as if they say that is you took up insurance with them between the quoteed dates and you didn't declare anything........how would they know what's been done adn whether you had anymore done since your renewal?

Whne I took out LV's insurance I was told they didn't need to know what was modded and all was covered as long as I didn't change the engine CC.

Now I need to update LV with a change of address and will brooch the mods subject with them.

They DID assure I do not need to declare my mods, individually. They said they have it in their records my car is "modified" and thererby comes under the rules of the CC rule, and they even mentioned returning my car to modified condition in the event o an accident, and subsequent repairs. :D Therefore mods done and in the future will not need declaring to LV. They simply know I do it, and as long as I stick to the "keep receipts and photos rule" I'll be OK come claim time. :D

But I'm still tempted to switch to Chris Knott, despite LVs good service.

J,

Don't take something stated over the phone as gospel - get it in writing! You may have been speaking to one of the many advisors who - it seems - don't know what their own company's position is on mods.....

Out of interest, have you tried more mainstream insurers for a quote?

 I don't mean to laugh, but its a joke. Once the word "modified" is mentioned, they totally go cold and tell you to basically go away. It ended up with me ringing up saying, "Do you insured modified cars?" "no" - "thanks" *hang up.

Really was a waste of time for me to scan the yellow pages. :grumpy:

I'll say it again.

Jason's already had a pay-out under the "no need to declare mods" policy. Therefore why should he need to re-confirm anything again?.

That said, jump to Chris Knott as they are looking after Briskoda members specifically, and the more of us that go with them in the long run, the better the deals will get.

I'll be changing at next renewal (september).

Sounds easy enough to me. :)

Exactly geoff - Never thought I'd find two insurers happy to insure me with my mods, with 0 NCB, with a write off on January, and at a similar price... Puts me in a bit of a sticky position - loyalty of sticking with the firm who dealt with my claim so well, or switch ships, maybe to the long term benefit of other Briskodians?

Jason,

Where insurance CO's are concerned, forget loyalty... ;)

Look after number 1.

Anyone know if Knott's do free euro cover? Cos i'm stuffed if i'll pay extra for Green Cards after getting them free with LV :D

 Never asked, but having 6 months free cover could be useful... Its something I'll ask Chris Knott when I ring them back! :D:thumbup:

However, I'm still umm'ing and ahh'ing.

 I don't mean to laugh, but its a joke.
I know, I know... but I just fancied a laugh to see what the "big boys" had quoted you :D

Toss a coin Jason.

For my 10 pence worth, Better the devil you know as they say

J,

post up the tel. number...there's a good chap. ;)

Ahem

LV was 0870 6004528 (for existing users)

My number for Chris Knott is on my desk at my usual place of work, but they have a website so do a google for them - they have an 0800 no. and a ringback free service too.

Just called LV to update my address details and to ask about modifications for existing policy holders.

As stated previously you don't have to notify/declare to them any mods, bar change in engine CC, just keep receipts/photos of them....

For new policy holders mods won't be covered unfortunately so it looks like alternative arrangements will have to be made e.g Chris Knott.

Even though I been told this directly I still don't feel 100% about it.....I guess too many people have been told conflicting stories....but it does seem like existing policy holder/mods  ...new policy holders/mods :thumbdwn:.

May be a little survey to see what everyones been told to get a better feeling, percentage wise, on where we stand?

Here is tip, dont call LV on the 0870 number which is charged at whatever rate they decide, use this website http://www.saynoto0870.com type in the number and it will give you several much cheaper alternatives that link to the same company. in this case either 0845 609171 or 01202 292333.
