VAG COM Codes

Featured Replies

A kind local Briskodian (from the sites VagCom list) is checking my Felicia this weekend.

First, I need to know more about VAGCOM, its codes , how to check and reset them etc.

The 3 main tasks are to reset the Airbag warning, find out why the battery charge indicator will fade but not go out with ignition on and, based on someones recent post , check the throttle body position (engine idling a bit rough but not high). As previously advised by the forum I checked the voltage across the battery. At idle shows 13.50v not checked yet on revving but the battery is fine and seems to remain charged ok.

Second, the chap with the VAGCOM has asked me if I also want any option codes setting/resetting. Neither of us know what settings are available for my S regd Felicia 1.3 MPI. Ideas please.

many thanks DF

Battery light is nothing to do with the ECU on a Fel, that'll be a straightforward old-school alternator issue.

Tom will know what's what with VagCom - airbag should be straightforward and the guy will know what to do anyway.

The only modules scanned by VAG-COM on the Felicia are Engine, ABS, Airbags and Immobilizer. Unlike later VAG models, there are no option codes which can be reset.

Thanks djaychela and dgw (denis) .

Who is Tom?

I will deal with the alternator in the traditional way.

TeflonTom.

who me?? :giggle:

as already said above, there are only 4 modules available in a felicia, engine, immo, airbags, abs.. but airbags and abs are optional items and most of them dont have abs

ok your 3 tasks

1. reset airbag warning lamp, this is easy, erasing the fault codes from the airbag module will switch off the warning lamp, but however if there is a fault somewhere in the system it will re-appear.. you dont mention the circumstances in which the airbag light came on but the common one is for the ignition to be switched on whilst the steering wheel/airbag is disconnected from the slip ring, in which case a simple code erase will clear this...

2. battery charge light, to be honest i don't think vag-com is going to help you with this fault, it could be a classic case of the alternator voltage regulator being shot, or possibly the exciter(sense) wire is damaged or not attached to the alternator.... if you go into engine 01, measuring blocks 08, group 04.. you should see engine rpm, battery voltage, coolant temp, air temp in the 4 display zones... so if you then put that group into the vag-scope mode you will be able to track battery voltage against engine speed on a graph in real-time.. the voltage should remain fairly stable

3. throttle body reset is a nice simple one, engine 01, basic settings 04, group 1. but this does require that certain pre-requisites are met and the engine must not be running when you do it... i would i would suggest that your rough iding is not throttle body related unless it's absolutely caked in crud.., it's more likely to be ignition related or i'd suggest trying to eliminate any possible mechanical factors first such as adjusting the valve clearances, check throttle cable is not too tight... vag-com is unlikely to help you with diagnosing this fault anyway unless it's something obvious like a missfire..

there are a few option/login codes, but none that will be of any use to you... my advise would be not to fiddle with settings you don't understand...

Many thanks TT.

Re Airbag. Previous owner said she had to have the ignition barrel changed (hence separate key) so I guess that the change was when the warning kight went on. Mind you i have no proof that there is actually an airbag in there!

re Alternator , voltage drops from 13.50v on revving. I suspect the exciter wire, especially in view questionnable disturbance to wiring as above.

DF

Please let us know how you get on sorting the problems out.

it's unlikely to be the exciter wire it that case, the alternator should self excite when you rev the engine... it's more likely to be a dodgy voltage regulatar/rectifier
