EGR VALVE some clarification please

Featured Replies

Ive been told by skoda the egr valve looked very clogged, however i need some advice as they wont replace it as of yet. I would like to know what it is ( i think it means exhaust gas regulator am i right?) and also what it does first of all.

Then can anyone answer theese, they said it was dodgy when i said sometimes the car wont start (it stinks of petrol if it doesent)

2 They said it was pointless to replace at the mo as the cat has a crack in it ( i said i was geting it fixed monday anyway)

3 Would a dogey one cause the car to rev itself sometimes when its idleing and also would it cause a bit of a flat spot when pulling off?

for info i have a 1.4 16v

having a vrs im not clued up on 1.4's ...but due to emission regs the egr valve recirculates some of the spent exhaust gases by allowing some to pass from the exhaust manifold via a small pipe to egr valve which is vacuum operated...a lot of people modify things so it doesnt work...

1.4, hard to start, could be low cylinder compression and since you've got a 16v that would probably be the known piston rings wear issue.

We had one last week, just after we serviced it. It showed up pressure sensor faults and that it had an air leak. We went through it, cleaning the throttle body, erasing learned values, adapting the throttle body etc. The fault appeared to be a stuck EGR valve, gently tapping it must have re-seated it as the car ran fine and responded to the throttle. The EGR valve is the cylinder on the front left of the cylinder head (as you look at the engine).
