Expanding your diesel tank

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried this modification yet on a Yeti? I've been pressing in that little black thing for years on the A2 but only when I know I was going to drive a long distance there and then. With only a 34 litre tank you need as much fuel as you can get - and pressing the nipple gave me an easy extra 4 or 5 litres! But this thread seems to suggest diesel's expansion when hot is negligible?!

Does the Yeti also have this nipple? Has anyone pressed it yet or indeed removed it as per the guide?

Yes, it does seem to have a button at about the 5 O'clock position. It is not quite the same as the obvious one on our Roomster that is at about the 8 O'clok position. The one on the Yeti will probably need a small screw driver to push, as it has a metal or hard plastic surround.

Next time I fill up, I'll give it a push and see what happens.

That would be useful - quite a good idea if you manage to find a garage with a good price deal - the cost of diesel etc. Every 'new pence' counts. :giggle:

I won't permanently disable it but I like the option to fill it to the brim come a long distance trip. It is a well proven fact that the fastest car across Europe is not a Ferrari et al but the one with the longest range that have to stop the least.

I've not heard of this one before.

Having located the button, does it need to be kept pressed during refuelling or is it pressed once?

If the valve is removed, is there a danger of blow back of fuel when filling? a shoe full of diesel is not pleasant!

You have to keep pressing it yes. And yes there is a danger of blow back but you know this and have to listen and fill the last few litres slower.

It's a bit of a fiddle to do and I only managed to squeeze in another 3 or so litlres. I don't think its really worth the fiddling about and I definitely would not go as far as making any permanent alteration to the system.

Could be handy if garages start giving out free glasses again. It could be a good way of fitting in another couple of pounds worth of derv to get to a price cut off and get the coupons

Thanks for that Trevorminor! As you say for just 3 litres it is not really worth it on a car with a tank the size of the Yeti. On my A2 with a 34 litre tank that extra 5 litres is really, really useful when driving long distance.
