Fabia vrs battery discharge

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've got a problem with my fabia vrs mk 1 - the battery is being discharged.

The battery is only 6 months old but I've had it tested and it was all ok - fully charged after a 40min drive. However, the car is drawing 130mA instead of the normal 30-50mA.

Any idea's on where I should start looking or should I just start pulling fuses?

Thanks,

Stuart

weak connection increases resistance which increases current draw...

I assume these measurements are when the car is completely off etc..

So the only things which will be on and the keys away from the ignition is alarm/immobiliser or lights if/when you have doors open.. have you checked all lights are off?

I.e. glovebox light, switching off interior light.. etc etc..

uhh... :S let me have a think.

Thanks for your reply,

Yeah all measurements done with car off. When charging I'm getting 14.2v at the battery. When not running the car its about 12.2v as per normal.

All the lights seem to be off. I did replace my interior light recently - perhaps there's something REALLY strange with that. (the original one broke so I replaced it with the same unit).

I've removed this light as a test to see if its the problem. I'll be checking the battery voltage every few days, but after 24hrs it was still 12.2v

The replacement battery is making me wonder though.... I dont know what the factory battery spec was but this one is 60Ah, cca 560. When I look around the web at replacements their all 70-75Ah and 650-750cca. Its only when you look at a Fabia 1.4 when you find its a 60Ah battery (I've got a 1.9TDI). Did the garage fit the correct physical size but reduced capacity battery? Hence when its nice and FULLY charged, it starts the car ok but when its left a few days there's barely enough current?

I think if the voltage stays at 12.2V for the next few days (without being driven), then I've either got a strange interior light short or its a battery current problem. Do you agree?
