Diesel boost boxes

Featured Replies

Hi folks, i keep seeing these different plug in boxes that are "supposed" to boost your hp n torq and improve efficiency in a similair way to a remap. Have we got any educated opinions on these things. They appear a cheap alternative to a remap but do they work ?

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

lots of horror stories only a few good stories. think about it, you have paid thousands for you car, why skimp on something that could break it and cost many more thousands in a new engine.

buy nice pay twice

They do work but there are two types

Analogue..just a resister that fools the ECU into injecting more fuel...I wouldnt get one as they can bugger your EGR valve

Digital..More like a remap in a box..safer and good as a cheaper alternative..Easily removable

Remap is the best and safer option IMO

The cheap and nasty eBay tuning boxes are just that - cheap and nasty, however pick a decent digital tuning box like the ones that were made by Dragon (Dragon are no longer trading - but their box's can be found s/h from around £30 - £60, depending how desperate you want it) and they produce good results.

I fitted one to SWMBO's MK5 Golf (105PD) and it transformed the way it drives - much better pick up from standstill, without the box it was quite flat.

My Dad ran a Tunit V-PD box in his 2005 Octavia 140PD for 3 years with no problems in any way!!! Tunit have been around for a lot of years, so they can't be all bad or they wouldn't be still trading. I would agree that the cheap Ebay items should be avoided at all cost!!!

I guess its each to there own.

As said previously some cheap ones just trick the ecu in thinking that the coolent temp is lower thus injecting more fuel, i had one on my mondeo st tdci 2.2 a few years ago, did increase power but didnt like the power delivery and it made the car noisier (diesel knock) Go with a propper remap Revo or shark performance, better and SAFER!!!
