Panoramic Roof - again !, ..sorry

Featured Replies

I know there's loads of stuff about this in other threads, but I am about to order Yeti but really want the Panoramic roof and have absolutely no idea what this would mean in terms of lead times. Are dealers even able to process orders into a backlogged system or will they remain on desk until the system opens again for Pano roof orders.

Any insight greatly appreciated.

AFAIK you cannot order a sunroof at all. It has been taken off the system completely and is not listed as an option anymore. They are going to build the cars that were already on order with sunroofs and that is it (apparently).

Sadly emoticon-0106-crying.gif to confirm. Sunroofs are not an orderable option at the moment, unless anything's changed very recently.

Anyone understand what the issue is - if I knew that they were to beccome available in say 6 months I'd definitely hang on, otherwise not sure what to do. Maybe find a used manual 4x4 with Pan roof !

Who knows. Some people have quoted their dealers as saying Arvin Meritor (who makes the sunroofs) can't make enough due to some issue at their factory. Recently someone's dealer said Skoda themselves have a problem with the machine that cuts the holes in the roof. This I find a bit hard to believe since they are still producing cars for people that have already ordered with sunroofs - albeit very, very slowly. If the machine that cuts the holes is not working it is not working fullstop. Unless they take each roof offline and manually cut a hole in - hence the delay? You won't get an answer out of SUK or Arvin Meritor. I've tried both to no avail.

From what I understand, it's purely a supply/demand issue. The sunroof supplier does not have the production capacity to make as many as what was being ordered. A huge order backlog was being created for the Yeti (and Superb) so they had to put a halt on it as an option until they clear the backlog. At some point in time, it should become available again but that might not be before next year.

Don't forget, Skoda only anticipated selling 3.5 thousand Yetis in the UK for the total year. They've shot past that already from what I can make out and the car is proving just as popular in other countries.

Your best bet would be to try and source a demo/used one with a sunroof but these are about as rare as sightings of the mythical creature itself.

I guess the main problem is sunroof + RHD. It´s true that I've got a delay of my LHD Yeti with a sunroof...two weeks.

The British market is important for Skoda, no doubt, but pretty small compared to the rest of the european market, where they might be selling 10 or 12 times more cars (I'm just guessing on this).

Regarding the 'can opener': does somebody cook a donut and afterwards make a hole on it? They build the roof part with the sunroof shape. Any other process means a waste on resources, time and material (I'm guessing again, but 99.99% sure).

maybe, there can opener aint cutting straight, hence one of our members recent roof leak!!....

Could be a seal or an assembly failure.
