Remapping a PD140 at 90K ?

Featured Replies

Sorry for posting here rather than the relevant tuning forum, but just wondered if anyone has remapped a 2.0 PD140 with 90K on the clock.

Is it crazy even thinking of it at this mileage.

Just I'm at insurance renewal time, so wondered if it was worth looking at.

If I did it, it would be done right.... Trip down to Shark or STS for example....

It all depends on the Service History etc etc.

My last pd130 octavia was remapped at about 80k and still going strong at over 140k, however the clutch did need replacing within weeks of the remap.

My pd105 was remapped at around 65000 miles. If you can get rolling road data and a check of the engine management done on the car before the remap it should show up any issues. Since these engines are often good past 250000 miles there's no reason to think it is worn out at this stage... A friend of mine remapped his car with well over 100000 miles on it recently...

thanks guys.....

Car has FSSH and will probably have another service before the map went on it.

Just a little concerned of additional stress on the turbo and clutch, although 80% of my time is on the motorway.

Think its time to phone one of the sponsors on this site to get an idea of what its going to add to the policy.

Once I declared the remap to the insurer and got a letter from the guy who did the work saying the car was in a roadworthy condition there wasn't even a change in my premium and I'm in Ireland where a 3 series BMW is considered seriously upmarket thanks to the insane car tax and insurance premium levels... I waited until after the timing belt service was done before going for the remap.

If the car has been looked after then there should be no problem at all.. it's only just run in :)

90K is nothing for a PD - however with the 140PD i would want the oil pump / drive changed for peace of mine, these have been known to fail at less mileage than you have currently got - and it's all down to the poor design.

Ahh, hold the remapping idea for now........ I just googled PD 140 oil pump and don't like what I found.

I've got a warranty till September, which will go out the window if I remap (engine related cover anyway).

I could deal with a clutch or turbo at this mileage, but not an engine being taken out by the oil pump !

Does anyone know if it affects all PD140's..... mine is a BKD. :-(
