Cleaning the Octy; Doing it right!

Featured Replies

Hi all, ever since since I've started to drive I have cleaned my car in a certain way, using my dads stuff, which to be honest didn't really do much good. Now, I am still applying that to the Octy and I don't want to ruin it.

Current wash;

  • Bucket of suds
  • Crappy wash mitt/Brush
  • Water down car
  • Wash over
  • Chamios over
  • Polish
  • Done!

This leaves the car in a terrible state and I am rather sick of cleaning my car and it still looking bloody dirty! So fella's can you help me get it right?

I don't want to spend loads, want to collect it more over time. At the moment I have a pressure washer, chamois, buffer (don't know the fits on it).

These are the areas I want to tackle...

  • Paint lustre
  • Swirl marks
  • Final Polish or wax

So what can I do to combat this and correct it? What bits am I looking to get as well.

I have signed up to car detailing world but I thought I would ask here whilst I wait to be approved :)

pay baker 21 to detail it once a year then your cleaning will be justa normal 2 bucket method wash

he will give it a full detail machine polish etc etc make it look better than new apply lots of wax 1 year is plenty for a full detail

this is what i would do let the pro's do baker or oggy on here very very good guys

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anybody know a good reputable detailer in Northest uk, Middlesbrough area.

What is their average price? I know people who do it on this scale and they charge a fair bit for it!

But to be honest, I wouldn't mind doing it myself.

Worth having a look here mate:

Mirror Finish is a good lad as is Miglior, some very good work from him and would reccommend both........

If you want to do this yourself then Chris's post below will give you a good base to start looking at processes and products but it's key to ensure your washing safely with the 2 Bucket Method, a Lambswool Wash Mitt and Drying with a Drying Towel otherwise more scratches will appear on your paintwork.

Also worth pointing out that the only real way to remove the swirl marks is with some machining, granted they can be filled but they will re-appear after further washing..........

Start by reading in here:

Then ask for specific advice.

Good luck

PS. You need a foam lance once your car has been corrected to help prevent further paint damage

Foam lance isn't a complete must have but does help with your Wash Process........... ;)
