Basic digi camera for Mum

Featured Replies

Mother wants a new camera for the arrival of the sprog

It's hard to get anything other than a digi camera and she likes to see the pics on the screen anyway.

She doesn't have a computer. Will take the memory card to the photoshop/supermarket to print.

She is as technophobic as a caveman who thinks flints are too modern.

She's only got about £60 to spend.

Because she's only ever going to print the picture she's only really needing about 3MP.

I was thinking of a Kodak camera because IMHO they are usually the easiest to use.

We have an older Canon Ixus70 which would suit except she's got arthritis in her hands and something chunky would suit.

So really she after a camera that is the antithesis of everything that is on sale now. Big, low res and simple.

Any ideas?

Cameras are not my thing.

Quick dig about confirms what I thought.

It's hard to get anything with less than 10MP now and cheap high MP cameras take rubbish low light pictures.

A problem we had with a cheap Kodak a few years ago.

I wonder if second hand would be better.

A formerly high end 3-6MP camera would suit.

I have an older 2MP Kodak camera you can buy if it helps, being old it's chunkier, but takes a very good picture. Takes 4 AA batteries, CompactFlash memory cards. Excellent condition.

Most stuff now is always small with fiddlier buttons, I bought another Kodak to replace this one, as I do like them and haven't had issues with them.

Needed the exact same kind of camera for my mum a couple of years ago. No computer, and only wanted to take photos she could take to a photo developer to print. I found the best thing to do was go to a camera/electronics shop and have a look for cameras in your price range that have big chunky buttons and a BIG screen. That way you can play around with the functions and see if it suits. Then write down the model and check for any negative reviews on t'internet. Sorry I can't remember the model we ended up buying, but probably isn't even available anymore as is a couple of years old now. Good luck . :)
