Retrofit of central locking

Featured Replies

Hi all, new memeber here. Just purchased my first Skoda classic 1.4 and was looking into fitting central locking but abit confused on which one to buy, could anyone help, some have mentioned rclick ones other have Maplins. My skoda is Fabia classic 2000 W reg. Many thanks for all your help.

Just one other thing, I live in Nottingham, does anyone live near me that if i get into any difficulties I can call upon(cheeky I know) but i;m a complete novice I dont want to run the risk of causing more damage. I would be happy to pay for any help recieved.

thanks again

Simon

Welcome to Briskoda. :) I have split your post from the thread it was originally in and moved it to this forum where you are more likely to get a reply.

Welcome to Briskoda. I'm hoping to do this job at some point too. I bought the genuine Skoda kit at £126.99 part number BFC400101. It comes with wiring, plugs, and brackets designed to fit into the Fabia. To be honest the motors themselves look very similar to the Maplins/Rclick ones. I was rather disappointed with this as when you can get the 4 door kit from Maplins for £25 it's like you've spent £100 on the brackets, plugs and wiring etc. The instructions are also rather poorly translated - they refer to the original service manuals (google for "briskoda free service manuals" and you will find these ;) ). It looks like it is quite a challenging job to do. I also expect most of the door trim clips will break, so it would be worth buying some of those (the last ones I got look like they're redesigned so they don't break). To be honest I suspect there's nothing between the Maplins and Rclick kit and that the rear doors will be trickier with a standard "fits all" kit as the Skoda supplied brackets make them stand away from the mounting surface.

I will also be fitting (or trying to fit) an alarm at the same time as the central locking kit, but mainly for the remote locking/unlocking feature this provides.

See also this post http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/75546-fabia-central-locking-kit-retro-fit-guide/ The pictures are missing from there, I can try and take some if and when I get around to doing the job.

From experience fitting those damn things, the brackets/plugs/wiring is the most annoying part of the whole deal. With the maplins ones it is ultimatly very fidley to get them all in the right place, with the right angles etc - i'm sure the skoda brackets will make a very annoying job much much easier.

Leave yourself a good few hours to fit them, and be ready to get a few grazed knuckles emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Just a small point, if there are no other electrics in the rear doors ,then the rubber pipe which takes all the cables into the rear doors will not be fitted. I brought a pair from a Skoda Dealer, when I fitted Central locking to my year 2000 Fabia. The centre pillar, and the rear doors already have the correct mounting holes, covered up with push out plastic plugs.

The rubber bits for rear doors come with the Skoda kit, but if going with a generic kit like the Maplins one I think these should definitely be purchased as it will look rather messy otherwise.
