CONNECTS2 for Symphony - where to earth it?

Featured Replies

CONNECTS2 IPOD connector

Due to excellent advice given on the Forum, I have so far managed to take out the head unit and have found the shelf (behind the switch blanks) which I understand will support the small "Connects2" box.

Problem I have is what to do with the earth cable. I seem to remember reading at least one member advising to earth it by attaching the cable to the outside of the head unit casing but there are no screws on the outside of my Symphony unit which I could undo, attach the earth cable and then re-tighten.

Have searched this topic again today, but having no luck finding the earlier post(s).

Can anyone who has managed to fit the Connects2 box kindly let me know where they earthed the unit - in particular if there was not an obvious way of attaching the cable to the outside of the Symphony casing?

By the way, my car is a Fabia mark 1.

many thanks.

Is there no torx screws or anything on the bare metal cage bit of the stereo?

2 options then:

1, You could try splicing into the negative on the stereo connections using some snap-lock connectors, its hard to explain, but it doesnt involve cutting any wires.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1073

It basically clamps your existing wire plus your connects2 wire together without having to cut and strip them. You can remove it after and all it leaves is a tiny slice in the wire insulation which you can cover with some tape.

OR

cut the wires and use terminal connector strips, etc if you dont mind having a go.

2, Run the wire to a possible nut/screw point on the chassis, sandpaper the paint away on the thread and connect it there with some washers, etc.

I'm pretty sure I connected mine to a screw protruding from the rear of the Symphony Unit. On the back face. If it wasn't such a pain getting the bloody thing back in again I'd take mine out and have a look.

There is a thread about fitting this to a Fabia but I can't find it anymore.

Oh and the playlist function is a bit of a bugger to understand, this is from the manufacturer-

"The display does not correspond to the playlist, as the original head unit was not originally designed for an iPod input.

The preset buttons on the front of the head unit allow control of playlist up/down sequentially. Whichever disc number is shown the display, the button either side of it will take you up or down a playlist respectively. For example, if the display shows CD2, pushing preset 3 will take you up a playlist and preset 1 will take you down a playlist.

Thank you"

Just installed Connects2 into my Octavia II (see here). The stereo cavities are probably wildly different, but do you have anything like the torx screw/washer I found?:
