Which Catch Tank?

Featured Replies

I'd like to fit a catch tank to my crank house breather.. Someone said a good one would catch more than a bad one.. that makes sence but I'm not sure what makes a catch can good, or bad..

So, on eBay at the minute the obvious ones are...

This square one with a tilted panel for the pipe feeds.

This round one that looks smart but seems to cheap? Is it pointless bling?

This, really expensive one that doesn't look to different to the cheaper ones.. is it really going to catch all that much more oil?

Though, I've heard allot on the net about these eBay Cusco units being fake?

There's cans for like £200+ as well...

Don't they all do the same thing?

Don't know about the fabia, but the octy vrs needs a catch can with 19mm (3/4") inlet AND outlet on a catch can. Most of the ebay ones are 19mm and 13mm hard to get 19mm on both.

hi, just in response, would you mind explaining the need for a catch can? i remember reading something the other day in relation to the EGR valve if i remember correctly? people were mentioning finding oil over the struts and the bushes which can decrease there life expectancy? am i correct in were im coming from? have you disconnected the pipe from the crack case and are looking to catch the oil from it so it does not go into the boost pipes? am i correct in what im saying or completely wrong? lol

many thanks, jordan

Spot on with that i'm doing Jordan.. though oil on the components you mention I'm no so sure about as the EGR valve isn't really over those and would have to squirt quite far to reach the strut top.

You can also just vent the crank house breather to air.. but I've read about Ice blocking this (though, the heat would soon melt it). And I also don't like the idea of leaving oil on the road.. even if it is tiny amounts..

Aaaallllso, with a catch can you can see how much oil is (or, was) going round the system.

Does no one have any advice on a GOOD catch can design.. I can't help but think the in/out at an angle but on the same axis is a bit close and allot of the vapor will just go straight back up the out pipe.. but then they will have the help of gravity more than the the cans with the in / out at different angles but going in the side, but then these have the in / out further away from each other?

On a side note,,, I called my insurance company to see if it would put my premium up, they said no, it;s not technically a mod so it would just go on the account as a note (like the cruise and cupra bushes).. but that it had to be installed by a garage!... feck! If I crash and they investigate they'll want to see a receipt! Grrrrrrrrrrr.

unneccessary mod...simply vent under engine cradle at rear of engine...the oil escape is miniscule....
