HOT HOT

Featured Replies

Bit of a weird one.. the other day i went to the jet wash to blow the crap off the car before i took it home and washed it by hand..anyways i gets their and 3 pound coins fall out my pocket so i retreve them but i noticed my seat rails(on the car) were absolutely roasing.so i felt around the area and the ciggarette lighter surround was roasting hot to really the tunnel area/.. i am thinking i have a blocked cat/centre section or something. their is no reason for that sort of heat in the cabin. its pretty hot..to hot to touch!?

any one noticed this or have any ideas?

The whole centre tunnel in my vrs gets hot when you're driving it enthusiastically, shall we say.

Have you checked that the heatshields etc are still there?

There should be a heat shield on the exhaust around the centre box. however I guess the screws holding it on could have corroded and the shield fallen off. The cat is mounted directly behind the manifold so this is not likely to be the cause.

Heatshields are all their. just thought i was a bit to hot.. never came across that before in any of my cars

is the bottom plate to your gearshift selector on?

this is under the 2 heatshields that join in the centre section of your exhaust but is a pig to get to unless on ramps.

if the gearshift mechanism bottom plate has fallen off (is pressed on with tabs and has a rubber seal) extra heat could get into the car this way.

worth a look
