All of a sudden, Running with constantly high rpm's

Featured Replies

I'm sure it's happened to someone before..., but I can't find it anywhere...

All of a sudden, when I was driving along, the engine got crazy and desided to run constantly at close to 4000 rpm's.

It wouldn't go lower.

If I pressed the speederpedal to the bottom, it would go higher.

I have no idear why it all of a suden desided to run at those high rpm's.

I was only 1½ kilometer from home, but the clutch and the engine got very hot :-(

The engine is a 1.3 SPI from 1995.

Has anyone any idear about what has happened ?

And how to fix it ?

And here is the Answer:

The car is equipped with a standard airfilterbox and filter !

But somehow a piece of the filter (standard paperfilter!!!) has torn of, and jammed the inlet valve.

Thats a first !!!

Carefully pried it out and looked for any damage.

Hopefully all that's happened is, that it used a terrible amount of oil. This morning it was on top of the oilstick, but now it's 3/4 full only.

That's an unusual one and no mistake. Top the oil back up, and keep a close eye on it for a day or 3. If it stays full, you can relax.
