IS this deal good for my vRS?

Featured Replies

hey up guys,

ive had my vRS for nearly 3 years now which is a record for me as i normally change every year to something else. The problem is as good as the vRS is as std it needs modifying to be very good, ive been there and done that, now its back to std and stage 1 map, and im really really bored of it.

I've considered the option of re-modifying the car but ive done once so i cant really be bothered wasting the money again.

anyway, previously ive had alot of fords(im a proper ford fan) ive had an Xr2i, Xr3i, mondeo 1.8, mondeo 2.0, mondeo St24, mondeo st200, scorpio cosworth, mondeo St TDCI, focus ST( very briefly) and now im thinking shouold i change my car for a Mondeo St220.

ive always wanted one, i think they look the mutts, The ST TDCI i had was way better to drive than the vRS any way, although underpowered, Mdmay wil confirm that, as i reccomend one to him as he was looking o get rid, and he commented on how good it was in comparison, and the St220 is supposedly better again.

so anyone here driven one, or even better owned an St220. what is there to look out for on them, and key servicing periods, i dont really want to buy one and then get smashed with horrendous serving costs for cambelts etc.

should i swap???? would you, or would you look at something else?

my bro has a 220 estate, and its not bad pretty tricked up with plenty of room (especially in the boot for his husky :giggle: ) nice smooth v6 power and pretty quick without even knowing your doin it  but is very thirsty

they dont have cambelts they have chains which if looked after should be ok but can stretch, check the st owners club http://stownersclub.co.uk/ i would consider the pro's n con's maybe even test a few to see if they are def what your after

After having a nightmare time with Fords I'd be inclined to look at something in the VW group especially if reliability is to be considered!

I want to move away from VAG though to be honest, VAG make a good car, but they are not as reliable as people think and audi's are horrendous on labo0ur when it comes to repairs. my audi coupe 2.8 V6 cost me more in a year in repairs and maintainence than it did to buy the car in the first place.

im also very into track days so any car i have, has to be able to cut the mustard in the handling department. was also looking into the mazda 6mps, although they are alot more expensive.

i also have a dog, so hatch back is a must at the minimum. fuel economy i aint that bothered really, i only do about 4-5k a year. good to know about the cam belt being chain driven, very useful to have when your driving a V6.

anyone familiar with tuning potential on thse, obviously not as reeptive as te turbo'd 4 cylinder cars, but there must e some gains to have?

pm'd you my bro's (rich) number, he said give him a call if you need any info.

well im of for a test drive in a minute

The way I would look at it, apart from all the MPG, suitability, desirability, tuning options, boredom with VRS, etc, etc. In 6 months think about would you;

A, Miss your Skoda?

B, Still feel the same about the ST220?

C, If you decided not to go with the Mondeo, would you be regretting it?

Mate had Hatch version excellent handling, only thing i didn't like was his had a sunroof which made haedroom tight. Not much on tuning front re-map, exhaust, filter, brakes upgrade about your best option to improve the car, standard stoppers not too clever. I'd have one just for that noise a 'V' engine makes.emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Do you mean the last gen Mondeo or the current one?

The old one had a horrible interior. Scratchy egg box plastics, couldn't have lived with it.

Bro had one with a special edition red leather interior. Was pretty nice and then uprated to miltek exhaust and was chipped. very nice!

well i viewed an the car ST220. absolute peach ofa car, hardly a mark anywhere, if anything considering the extra mileage and age of the car it was in better nick than my vRS.

im in a predicament now.

My car is a 57 plate with 30k mileage on it. 18" zeniths, cruise, climate control etc etc. there are quite a few stone chips on the front due to motorways, a scratch in the rear passenger door from a car wash, and a small dent in the rear bumper.

It also needs new tyres, new brakes, 2nd variable service, then its first MOT, and tax all at the end of august. thats going to be over £1000.

now the guy at the garage after much bartering offered me 8k for my vRS, and he will get all the above remedial work sorted for the car, so thats 9k for my car in part ex for a 2003 ST220, in absolute pristine condition, FSH, full heated leather recaro interior, the only marks on the car were some small scrapes on the alloys and a chipped windscreen(which would be replaced upon purchase by him)

The ST220 is up for £5300, so deal wise that would be he would give me the St220and £2700 cash in exchange for my car as it is now in need of all the servicing work etc

thought everybody

man up and do it.
