Climate Control in a VRS

Featured Replies

My aircon no longer works on fan position 1 :'( meaning we have force 2 chilled air or we overheat which is very frustrating.

having search though Brisky's well of infinite knowledge I though ti might have been my resistors that had packed up but apparently this would mean that all positions bar number 4 would stop working; so investigation has shown a knackered dash switch or something electronic failed in the controller in the dash.

Any one know rough price of a replacement air con dash section or have one lying around unused?

Alternatively is this the perfect opportunity to upgrade to climate?

Would it ever be as simple as unplug the air con and plug in climate or will it be missing loads of sensors etc?

I would have thought it'd be missing a load of sensors, like you said.

How would it know what heat to blow where with out them? The Fabia never came with it.. but what do the kitted out polo's n' Ibizas have?

Perhaps a little sensor bodgery could work, but doesn't seem like it'll be cheap or easy.

eBay normally have 1 or 2 of the control panels available.

Ibiza had climate....

yup i moved across from a SEAT PD130 sport to the Fabia and was confused to find aircon not climate. I guess it was built to a budget. :dull:

Wasn't climate an option on early Elegance spec cars?

Don't think climate was ever an option.

If you did get it, I think you'd need the temperature sensors, sunlight sensors, the control panel, some way of wiring that in, and something to control the flaps automation.

Quite a few people have asked this regarding Polos, and I don't think anyone has bothered trying. Maybe try serching the Octavia section, as they had climate as an option, someone may have upgraded.

Must be a nightmare :p

You know, actually *having* aircon that works at all! :o

I should get my compressor replaced really shouldn't I? :'( :'(

Can't find it in the brochures, but the first Fabia I looked at (1.9TDI Elegance) had it.

Really, with a screen and buttons? Not just the "climatic" dials.. Becuase they'll hold a temp but can't direct the air.

Hi Cliff,

I don't know if you have tried this but do you know that you can use the temp dial like a mixer tap with the aircon.

I always thought it would only work with the switch turned to cold/blue. But it seems not....

This may be obvious to most but I was surprised anyway.

Start with it turned to blue and simply turn up the heat until you're happy with the mix (with the aircon on all the time.)

Sorry if you already know this mate, but I discovered this by mistake on a hot day recently driving to Bristol.

I managed to make the air flow less of an artic gale and more of a chilly breeze using this method. cool but not uncomfortably cold.

18'c FTW!

Anyone else notice they get better cooling if NOT right down on blue when using AC? At least for the 1st few minutes or so.

thanks Garry and yes conditioned air doesn;t have to be arctic!

i am tending to alternate between that method and the turn off turn on turn off turn on method :)

think i'll investigate my resistors again as i'm being told that it's probably them that have packed up

Umm ... can't say for certain if it had the screen (it was just under a year ago now, and my memory's starting to fuzz). However, it did look very different to the A/C controls in my Fabia (54 plate Comfort), and the advert placed by the dealer (a Skoda main dealer) stated it had "climate control" (just checked, as I still had the print-out lying around). They also had a Fabia Comfort listed as having A/C, so I don't think it was a mistake. The car in question was a 55 plate Elegance.
