Pressed number plate supplier wanted

Featured Replies

I want some pressed alu plates of the same spec as I had on my old car. That is:

Pressed alu

BS AU 145d prescribed Charles Wright 2001 font

DIN stamped

no BS AU145d supplier text at the bottom

They have to fulfil all those requirements. Who can make them? A further bonus would be no Euro band and for the border to be plate coloured (white / yellow) rather than black (looks cleaner). I'll take a Euro band if it means I can avoid having a black border (some of the german blanks come with a D euro stripe but no black border - it's applied at pressing).

I do not want Dubmeister's or anyone else's who don't understand the nuances of the law and impose BS AU 145d supplier text at the bottom.

Free new style briskoda sticker if you can come up with a supplier who can provide two plates of the above spec for < £25.

Thanks

Aren't these things illegal?

Chorlton,

Which bit are you thinking of?

The DVLA only specify that there has to be reflective material (BS AU145d) and that self-adhesive plates don't conform (but are ok to use on trailers????). It doesn't specify what the material must / must not be, only that it has to conform. So metal plates (contrary to Police Stop!) are legal.

The font is correct, so it's not that "road-legal in Germany" font.

To my mind metal plates are great as they won't have that "Ford Sierra" look about them because they won't separate.

There have been numerous debates on here about the legality of different types of number plate. When I looked into it after an argument with my dealer and Skoda UK, I came across this INF104 which is issued by the DVLA. It stipulates the size, colour, font and spacing of the letters as well as some details of the background. Couldn't find anything to say that metal plates or raised lettering was illegal.

However the online supplier listed is unlikely to be registered with the DVLA as the only official way to get a new number plate is to present certain documents to show you have the right to display that plate.

Dubmeister FTW

You don't want Dubmeister....... I'll get my coat.

That is all.

when the plates came through the suppliers name on the plate is tnw signs, they look great and appear to be legal they are reflective , correct font correct size etc.

VOSA have changed the MOT requirements yet again Registration plates.

No Suppliers Reg no or postcode & BS numbers required at the bottom of the plate.

So back to a free for all and all tht cr4p from Government Ministers and Agencies about 'Crime Deterent etc is all gone by the way side,

we are in the EU again !!

(the UK MOT tester did not know anyway if it was the Original plate made by the Garage first making the plate, who did not require to be Registered or a replacement plate made by someone that did need to be Registered or a Company vehicle that had the plate made by the company for their own vehicles, the REgulations were a farce..)

As far as I found out while reading up about this and other stuff during a bout of insomnia. The MoT rules are not necessarily the same as the legal requirements. All they had to check previously was that the plate looked okay, no need to measure spacing or check font type IIRC. Still think the legal requirement includes the BS no, supplier name and postcode.

Yes, but you are talking about Number Plate Suppliers and one Government Department not Changing the Confusing Number Plate Regestration Suppliers Regulations and requirements.

The Policeman stopping a vehicle with obviously illegal number plates will want to know who made them.

A Police officer or roadside VOSA Inspector stopping a Vehicle with perfectly legally Displayed Number Plates had no idea if those plates without a Postcode or BS Number were the Original Plate fitted by a Dealer that only made plates for their own Sales vehicles,

Fleet vehicles etc on First Registration and all the others that can make plates but do not need to be, Registered to make 'Replacement plates'

There is a thread a few pages back on selling a Personal Plate, the Links are there to Companies and Plate Makers and Registration & Plate Markers.

I Carry a copy of the Registration Plate Regulations in my cars that have Cherished or unusual number plates just for that eventuality of being stopped on another matter.

I used to Make and supply Number Plates & deal in Cherished Registrations.

EDIT

Sorry, correction,

it was in this thread the Post Code Registration & BS Number links
