Love the car but the seats are killing me...

Featured Replies

Have had my Superb for just over 2 weeks and have over 2000 km. Great car except my left leg numb and pins and needles within 1 to 2 hours of driving.

It's very distressing as I've never had this kind of issue with other cars before. Normally it only takes few tries and I have found a good seat position.

However, after hours of trying different settings with the seats, I've still yet to find a position that is not painful, let alone comfortable.

There is no way I want to get rid of the car, so I need to find a solution that can be applied to the current seat somehow.

The next things I'm trying is to put a thick towel on the seat to raise my arse up at bit.

Has anyone here had a similar experience and if so, can anyone recomend a solution.

I'm based in Australia.

Elegance TDI DSG liftback 2010 build, seat have position memory buttons.

Cheers.

Not had this issue with my Superb2, it did take me a while to find the correct seating position though. I have just completed a round trip from the UK to Southern Spain (2900 kms each way) and had no seating problem at all. I found the seats comfortable and even after driving for nearly 8 hours, my back and legs were all fine.

What I have done now, is tied one of the memory positions to my key so that the seat always ends up in the correct place and setting.

Check that your left leg has a ben d in it and is not straight and that your seat is not too low.

As odd as it sounds, do you keep your wallet in your back left pocket?

Coming from an Octy to a Superb, I also experienced some left leg discomfort, however, 1.5 years later it is almost none existent. Yes, if you try to elevate your backside this may improve the situation.

The left footrest on the Superb is smaller than on the Octy, while the absence of a right footrest is disappointing.

Not so odd, mate. I used to be a back pocket wallet person, right side. Stopped doing that years ago!

Cheers.

Men sitting on their wallets is the major cause of later life hip problems and hip replacements. Seriously!

veloplus,

Nice to hear I'm not the only one. Nicer to hear that you go through it and it's no longer an issue. Give's me room to be optimistic!

If towel idea works, then I am going to see if I can get a more permant solution, like a car cushion or insert. The only thing about that is the set heating won't be as effective. Believe it or not, Australia does have cold parts and I live in one of them, so the heated seats are very nice!

Cheers.

But only single men. Married men's wallets never get thick enough

Have you tried playing with the lumber supports. As you have electric seats the lumber goes up/down and in/out. Using this control you should not need to use any cushions.

Yes I have. But I'm not sure how it would help in any case. I don't have any back ache. It's only in my leg and left bum cheek.

Could the lumber support help? I've not see any difference so far.

Cheers.

The seats are very uncomfortable. The shape of the seat is OK, but minimal pading. I am based in Australia too. The seat is killing me as well. When you test drive the car, you just need to make sure you only ware a T-shirt (not ware a lot of cloth). Basically, your bone is against the hard plastics of the seat to test if you are still comfortable before buying. In my case, the seat is comfortable in winter, but killing me in summer. I end up havving gone to a car trimmer asking more padding being put into the seat, which improve a lot now.

Fat people (fat padding) and people in cold region (cloth padding) will find the seat to be comfortable.

You could be right. I've added a thick sheep skin seat cover to try and pad the seat up a bit. I hate seat covers, but this seems to be helping a little.

Took it back to the Skoda dealer and he confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the seat per se, ie nothing is broken, it's working as designed. Not that I thought their was, but to their credit, they just wanted to make sure that was the case.

Trying to change my driving style as well. I tend to drive with my knees wide apart. But the Superb is a long, narrow car so I'm moving the seat back some and trying to drive with my knees closer. This is not a natural position for me so it will take some time to get used to it.

Cheers.

Hey man

Even though you don't have sore back, you could still have some nerve compression e.g. slipped disc in your back. It may be coincidence that your symptoms are occuring now, or it the new driving position might be provoking your symptoms.

I would echo the advice that you should probably sit a bit closer to the wheel as that will allow your knees to bend more - this will relax some of the tension on your nerve roots.

Hopefully, you'll adapt like others have above

Good luck

Evan

Agree with you that that is a worthwhile question, I take mine out now because it seems to pinch a nerve or something. Key point I think is that the seats are comfortable once you find the right position but because they are very firm then you do need to get it right. They are not very forgiving.

Try an orthopaedic seat wedge.

According to the spiel:

The Orthopaedic seat cushion helps relieve everything from back ache to numbness. It has a cutaway section which eases pressure on the tailbone which helps your spine to relax and the wedge shape restores the spine's natural "S" shaped curve. It can be used in our outdoors and is ideal for use in the office, car, home, church, train, boating, fishing, camping and picnics. It has a built in handle for portability and has a water/ stain resistant side which can simply wipe clean. The seat has furniture-grade foam for support and comfort and the breathable fabric side keeps you cool and comfortable.
