Retro fitting central locking to 1999 LXi

Featured Replies

Hi all...

Just a quick question... we have a 1999 Felicia Lxi which has no central locking and a soon to be scrapped 1998 GLi with central locking that I'd like to install into the Lxi.

Has anyone done this conversion before that could give any tips and hints on the conversion... I gather I need all motors out of the doors, but how does the actuating system work? Is it built into the two front motors or is there a central actuator elsewhere in the car? Would the Lxi be prewired to take central locking, too? I noticed the wiring is already setup for electric mirrors, for example.

Any tips and pointers greatly appreciated! :D

Hi Steven - Was going to attempt the very same thing.. Take all the bits and bobs from a scrapped GLXi and fit to my LXi.. Finally decided it made more sense to buy a complete remote-central locking system on ebay and fit that.. the thinking being, with all the stripping and fitting and fiddling, i'd rather know there are brand-new parts in there! - There's a lot of work involved, all four doors have to be stripped and the new servos' fitted- on my car, 2000 LXi estate, there was no original central-locking wiring fitted, so had to also fit the rubber feed-tubes the wiring is routed through into the doors... you'll have them on the front, to feed the speaker cables, so if they're not on your back doors, it means its not wired for C/L and you'll need to source them. - the added bonus of having all four doors stipped was i used light-guage polystyrene carpet underlay when refitting, cut to shape of the original plastic- its helps a great deal with sound-proofing. -......Something else to consider.. if you use the GLXi central locking, you'll also need to remove the original wiring and control until from under the dash .... anyway, best of luck and hope this helps-

BUMP .

Any info welcome - I'm about to regrade from a fabia classic to a Felicia GLi - and I've got a rear remote on the hatch of my fabia . Question is ,does the system use two five wire motors in front operated by relay ,or some other system .And what energises the lock/unlock .Idea is to use wireless unit ( if possible) to pulse central lock relay ( if fitted) -giving remote locking .

Edit -just had a look at wiring diagram - front motors are five wire and rears are two wire .Conventionally a pulse to either of two control wires will lock/unlock .

Any one of our knowledgeable Auto leccys know if this is earth pulse or voltage ,and also if control unit is solid state or relay based .

Edit yet again -for those not having the bits -Maplin do a 4 door central locking kit for a tad over £20
