test drove fabia vrs

Featured Replies

test drove a black fabia vrs yesterday for the first time. it was a 2006 model with only 6700 miles. it was crashed and repaired A1. me and my dad went to have a look just for a drive with no intentions of buying just to see how the car drove as i plan on buying one soon. after hearing so many things about how quiock they are i was expecting a lot. my dad has a octy mk2 vrs pd170 and when he'd been back and forth geting his service the skoda mechanics were saying how they used to race the two up and down the road and the fabia was much quicker off the line until about 80mph or so after hearing this i was very excited cause my dads car drives like a demon. anyway long story short we arrived to take a look at the car, lovely car but some small signs of accident damage, even if he offered me it for 2000 pound i wouldn have bought it just something wasn right about it. went for a drive, did not pull anywhere near as wel as i thought, very disapointed, no comaprison to my dads, it wasn even close lol altho i dont think the car was even run in and ive a feeling it had been sitting for a while, i was just wondering what everyone elses opinion is on this. just something wasn right.

I'd avoid a crash damaged car, if the chassis has been weakened in the original crash I wouldn't like to see it in another impact. I've driven a Leon FR TDI 170 and that certainly had more pull than my Fabia, but with the figures you would expect it to?

If your after a small warm diesel hatch, you won't go far wrong. With a RARB and remap (suspension change and brakes recommended too) the car becomes more refined and a joy to drive. Good luck searching and don't let a bad example put you off

The turbo on the Fabia vRS does need warming up properly before getting the most out of it and if this specific example you looked at had as you mentioned been sat for a while it may have been a bit "rusty" for want of a better word. Also if things like oil havent been checked and the fuel that was in the car was aged again you could get a decrease in performance certainly. I'm not saying this is fact in your case but is worth considering

With only 6700 miles it is just in its infancy in terms of performance. Imo the engine starts coming into its own after about 25k.

Only advice is to try and drive another one of these at least.

with 130bhp it's not gonna feel quick next to a 170bhp car. I'm still of the opinion that in standard form the mk1 Fabia vRS just isn't a quick car, certainly not as quick as some people seem to make out but if you're coming from a smallish n/a petrol then it'll feel rapid

It should feel nimble compared to a octavia i`d think, being a much smaller car. In real terms tho, the octavia would be much quicker. It wasnt even run in (diesels get better after a few miles), and it had been sat for a while, a looked after, well running fabia should put a smile on your face for sure!

yeah wel northern ireland, your der right. theres just somethings dodgey about it and i cnt put my finger on it. i was surprised after the machanics saying the fabia but this one wasn even close, it didn impress at all. altho im def gonna buy one, ill probly have to go to england as theres more to chose from and at cheaper money, altho i might go to a dealer to try one thats a bit more fresh. 2 to 3 years, frig me lol the car just felt dead. the octavia and fabia 0-60 times are separated by a second which isnt an aweful lot so i expected at the very least that it would be quite comparable but it was off by a mile.

Thats exactly whats happened

I`d rather a car with 50 thou miles than 6 at that age anyday

my fabia was neck and neck with my dads mates 170 scirocco from 20 to 75ish. So something tells me that car still has something quite wrong with it.

Speed wise, it should be nearly on a par with the octy.

My mate has an A4, S line, Quattro, 170, and standard for standard mine was quicker than his. His is now mapped to around 200bhp and 320lbft or something, and mines 177 & 305lbft, and mine is much quicker.
