VRS feels like its down on power?

Featured Replies

I've had my VRS for about a month now and it doesn't seem to give the same kick that it did when I first got it. Maybe I'm just getting used to it but even the Mr's said that it didn't have the urgency it had before.

Its been in to have an issue with the fuel lines (possible blockage) at the dealer but I can't see that being an issue.

Other than that - the car is fine. I know its been hot and the IC is a pi55y little thing but I wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference.

Any ideas? And before its suggested - I'm not up for remapping it quite yet.

GET IT REMAPPED PROBLEM SOLVED LOL :giggle:

I had the same problem, it get used to power!

You'd be suprised how much difference the warm weather makes. Tiny intercooler put in a stuffy wheel arch soon gets over worked. Have you checked for boost leaks?

Hmmm - didnt think about boost leaks. I would have expected that on an older car (like my old FRST) but not on this.

It has been showing 30+ c over the weekend so maybe that's it.

Is there a common place to look?

For "it's a bit soft", I'd try the crankacse ventilation pipes.

Also, you might think about the Audi TT arch vent mod.

The connectors on VAG boost hoses are crap, they move and come loose over time. Check all of them, but mainly the one on the intercooler behind the headlight, went on mine, and seems to be common to go. As ken said, well worth doing the pikey arch mod if your planning on sticking with the smic.

Cheers for that - will have a good look tonight.

Will have a search for the pikey arch mod too - I guess that a "free" way of getting a bit more airflow to the IC.

Essentially yes.

it involves fitting a vent to the wheel arch liner behind the SMIC to give the warm air somewhere to escape to. Either buy an Audi TT arch liner +/- £20, and butcher out the vent for a very OEM look. Or buy a vent from B&Q and attach with self tappers.

I used the TT vent, some pop rivets and epoxy glue

I'd hedge my bets on it being the weather, the tiny little side mount has the fabias on their knees in anything over about 28 degrees ambient.

Nice one - cheers for that Kev

I take it you are Kev from Stamford? Not sure if you remember me or not from the Turbo-Nutters days aka the_did

I remember your Fabia being rather quick!

I'm now wondering how VRS's cope in the hotter parts of Europe. And don'tother VAG cars with SMIC sufer the problem?

if any has a link for this mod please feel free to post a link up...emoticon-0136-giggle.gif ... ill have a kwik search emoticon-0148-yes.gif

On the topic of the smic... the fmic does this improve performamce at all, or is it somthing that keeps the performance up?

it does both..

Perhaps it would go part way to explaining why the cars are supposed to be 130bhp, yet, over here they seem to be a minimum of 140bhp. Maybe over there, they ACTUALLY run at 130bhp.

I took it out last night and it seems to be back to normal with ambient temps of 13.5.

Its crazy how much it seems to effect it.

On the heat subject - the engine does seem to get up to temp very quickly. My old Focus TDCi took quite a few miles to get up to running temp. Is that normal?

It'll definitely be the heat, i took a standard fabia out this morning, got to 100mph and the intake temp was 90 degrees, they struggle so much with their intercooler, i've removed my fog lights to help with cooling..

In this current climate it will get warm quite quickly, but just wait till the winter. When it's cold out it can sometimes take me from stamford until deeping to come up to temperature.

Hi Karl, didn't realise it was you! Saw you a while back in a pub somewhere but forgot to say hi..

Drop me an email or call if you need any bits or direction with the fabia. :)
