vRS Grille insert modification.

Featured Replies

I have just ordered the same set of DRL's vRSCarl recently fitted, in anticipation of their arrival I have been playing around with the lower grille inserts (the DRL's new home).

Anyway I thought I would chop out the lower part of the grille to create a type of vent effect, hopefully I will be running an intake pipe up to the cone filter of my Evoms, I will ensure there is a suitable water shield in place as I would rather not experience hydrostatic lock. Although this is a relatively simple change but very time consuming filling, sanding, filling, sanding etc.

When the DRL's arrive I plan to build a housing in the upper part of the grille to try and make them look as OEM as possible, but for now I have attached some pictures to show the progress so far.

Eventually they will be colour coded or I May try and carbon wrap them, I haven't decided yet.

Thats what I thought.

vents look good. matt black would be my call rather than carbon film.

not sure about retro-fitting the DRLs though.. I'm in two minds as to whether I even like them on my own car TBH.. :S

I have got a tin of matt black just in case, I will do the whole lot (bottom grilles) with it, if I decide that path.

Carl's DRL's look very good, and I think the OEM version on the FL look spanking, much nicer than the one's fitted in to headlights of the less popular VAG cars. :smirk:

i was going to do that with my gril inserts as well when i had my ITG. they look good when sprayed body colour like carls were

This is what i did to mine to get some cold air to my induction kit but i do like your design better the only prob with mine is i couldn fit any drls due to the size of the trumpet, would like to see them when they are colour coded though. Very smart!post-46390-12791338928678_thumb.jpg

Many thanks!

How easy is it to remove the bottom vents?

I'm scared of damaging anything if I do mine

They just pull out

I was in the same boat mate, just go for it, they are pretty tough tbh, if you get your fingers through the centre grille and wrap them around the edge of the outer grille then pull, there are 2 main clips top and bottom toward the centre and a couple more around the edge but they are really there to locate the grille.

Looks awesome you've got really good taste

That looks good. Plenty of time and effort makes it look like an OEM mod.

Be good to see it all finished, painted and working.
