Imap

Featured Replies

Virgin have now changed to Gmail

I like having my emails on all machines, five in total.

Gmail makes this tricky, so is IMAP the one for me or do I faff about setting up the recent: tag on all my machines

Any benefits/losses to IMAP over POP3 I should be aware of.

I have just set up my NTlworld account as IMAP on Fluffys my Mac Book. It is essentially the same as webmail if you have used that and I prefer it over the normal POP faffing around of leaving messages on the server.

I've just set it up here in work, looks good for now.

Like you say it's just like webmail lol

Now if I could work out how to get out look to default view the imap inbox instead of my old pop inbox I'd be a happy man :D

OK found the way to change default view.

I keep getting an imap cannot connect message, any ideas anyone

I think the Vermin Media mail has been temperamental today :giggle:

I think IMAP has to be turned on in gmail settings.I find the web interface so good I do not bother with IMAP for my gmail though.

Done that lol

I can't get along with their web interface :|

I found the IMAP setup quite easy in Gmail actually - easier than quite a few others anyway!

There's a good guide in the Gmail help section. Top tip would be to make sure you have secure (SSL) setup for both incoming and outgoing and give your username in its full form, i.e. [email protected]

I use it to pick up some secondary accounts on my phone, as I have a domain running through Google Apps, and it works very well
