1.9Tdi v 1.8Tsi

Featured Replies

I loved the 1.9. The low down torque was excellent and made the car so easy to drive. It's was with some trepidation that I picked up our new 1.8Tsi Scout yesterday having not had a test drive.

Well it's a bit of a revelation really. Like riding on a magic carpet compared to the old 1.9. The most impressive thing about the engine is the torque feels the same as the 1.9 !

It's a very, very smooth and progressive drive. We had a 350 SLK and it feels very much like it in the power delivery at sensible throttle.

Strange you like the TSi for its smoothness & "torque", whilst I find its smooth, I find that it really lacks the torque of a diesel which I really like, so if I do decide to stay with Skoda, then I'll be going for a CR diesel next time.

Perhaps it's because you have a DSG ? What diesel did you have before ? If it was a 2.0 then it's probably not a fair comparison.

Before I had a 2,0 TDi (140) VW Golf and it was better than this 1,8 for performance & economy, hence the thought of going back to diesel, especially as trips from Surrey to West Somerset/Devon are becoming more common.
