skoda fabia 1.2 timing chain

Featured Replies

Hi there, I have a skoda fabia 1.2 2004, 52,000 on clock and I have been informed today that I need my timing chain replaced due to a slight rattle. The garage as quoted me £450 for this job. Please can you tell me whether its normal wear and tear for my chain to need replacing and whether the price given is appropriate. I live in the wakefield area, and if anyone could recommend a suitable garage to in this area to check this out I would be very grateful. I originally took the car in for a temp sensor fault they charged me £60 pound for this and are now stating that I need a £450 job as well. I am aware that the bush on my suspension needs replacing soon as well. I have looked on the internet for a garage in the wakefield area specialising in skodas however can find one.

Would really appreciate some advice. very grateful with thanks.

52000 miles sounds a bit early for a timing chain to be changed. How bad is the rattle or is garage touting for business?

Look for a local VAG specialist in your area they will know VW, Audi ,Skoda & Seat cars.

Yeah, as I understand it, a rattle is just an annoyance rather than a sign it's about to jump or snap. Price is probably about right, but I'd definitely get a second opinion as regards necessity...
