uprated brakes

Featured Replies

hey all, ive been reading alot of threads about upgrading the discs and pads etc. im aware that the octavia discs and calipers are a straight bolt on altho i like the idea of drilled discs so might go down that route :) would the octavia carriers and calipers still fit fine? i know its a bit of a silly question but would just like some confirmation lol also can i go far wrong when buying news disc? as far as whats good and whats bad? and what fits and what doesnt? im after 312mm for the front if i remember correct thats the size to go for? does anyone know of anywhere to get good quality drilled discs at a good price or am i fine to buy some off ebay? :) and what pads are recommend which will provide good performance aswel as a good lifespan?

also none of the threads i read mentioned anything about the rear discs, it was just the front. is it possible to put the oringinal front discs and calipers onto the rear and replace the much smaller discs which would look out of place in comparison to the upgraded front ones?

if im correct the front discs are double wall vented discs and the rears are single wall so maybe the double walls wont fit onto the rear? any advice or has anyone done this?

thanks :) jordan :)

Hi Jordan,

I've just recently upgraded my brakes...

All you need is Callipers, Carriers and the bolts which are from the Octy/Audi TT 312mm brake setup. Some people use the longer brake pipes which come off the Octy/TT, but the Fabia pipes do fit.

With regards to Pads and Discs, I went for OEM. If I'm honest, I really see no point in uprating the discs to grooved or drilled as the conversion is overkill for the Fabia anyway.

You can replace the rear break setup which come off the octy which balance the car a little more under heavy breaking.

thanks for you repsonse, your pictures look great :) it really does look so good once the break have been upgraded. im assuming you didn upgrade the rear discs as you mentioned in your own post about the nose dipping? also do you know would the OEM fabia front brakes set up fit onto the rear in just a straight swap? :) and where would you recommend geting the carriers and calipers from? and do discs vary much in terms of qaulity? thanks :)

also how and where is the copper grease applied to the brakes to prevent them from squeking? :)

and by overkill you mean it looks a bit too over the top? lol

thanks, jordan :)

the oem front wont go on rear....you need 256mm vented from an octy mk1 vrs or audi tt...disc backing plate need lip trimmed off or replaced by a golf mk4 gti set with mounting holes slightly elongated, give the drilled discs a bodyswerve, good for cosmetic value only, copper grease needs smeared on the back of the brake pads.

thanks warrick :) do many people upgrade the rear discs too? would i be silly to upgrade the front and not the rear? or do most people just upgrade the front?

thanks :)

i think with brakeing its a 30% -70% split back to front so alot of money for not much benifit IMO just fit new discs and pads on the back then the 312mm upgrade on the front just done mine well worth doing

does seem to stop better with the 256mm rears, maybe it's that extra 10% missing from the rear standard setup...

lol, so only 90% braking!?

just a point that nearly caught me out, brakes off an Octavia II won't fit, it has to be the mk1 octy...

PL

oops yep lol

thats what it feel like atm! :giggle:

most only do fronts..i done both...rears only cost me £130 ish all in ...look better and stop better imo.

you'll need calipers/carriers/discs/pads from a audi tt/octy vrs mk1/golf gti mk4 etc and the disc backing plate trimmed or mk4 golf ones..
