So how long should standard dampers last on a VRS? Mine is at 67k miles now on originals. The front's squeek a bit now (at least it appears to be the shocks anyway) Im thinking of a change to coil overs (either ap or JOM) but if they are going to be rock hard then I may have to go another route. (Island roads very poor!) I was saving up for a revo remap but I think the money would be better spent on chassis first. Any advice greatly appreciated. :)

Mine are being replaced with coilovers on Friday and are the original shocks. Car has now done 130,000 miles.

Nearside front damper has gradually leaked a small amount of fluid over the last 3 years and the travel on it isn't quite what it should be, one of the rubber rear bump stops has also perished and split in half. The final straw was when the top mount bearings failed in May so have finally decided to replace the whole lot with coilies.

Had a Skoda mechanic look at last month it to diagnose the top mount problem and he seemed very suprised it was still on the original shocks at that mileage!

Mine had done 70k on the original suspension, recently changed for JOM redline coilovers and a whiteline rarb and the ride quality and feel is so much better.

With the JOM springs being progressive you can set them quite high (but still lower than standard) and still have a comfy ride

Craig 180 - Did you change as it was worn or to improve the handling? or both? Any difficulty with fitting?

I changed to improve the handling and so that I can lower it for shows/track etc

Yep, I think it was all the potholes over last winter and the fact I was bumping up the kerb every day to get onto our drive that finally did for them!

Mine is stil on its original suspension at 125k.......not sure for how much longer though! :D

My drivers side spring went at 93k recently, and I found the shocks are weak too, so the springs and shocks are being replaced on the front.

Any views on these:

They seem pretty cheap and if your are able to DIY the job replacing my suspension for under £200 seems like a bargain, or are these a false economy?

My car has 85k, but seems pretty creaky and as a 51 plate is getting on for 10n years old now.

errr looks impressive 2 years warrenty and TÜV read somewhere it's quite a high standard.

Mine seems to be getting more bouncy at the rear at 96,000km.

Fronts seem okay.

Want some Koni FSDs - never quite seem to save up any money.

I'm still on the original shocks at 133k ! Although it does feel a little soggy now, so I expect they are in need of a change.
