Hello, I'm currently looking at becoming a skoda owner for the first time and I'm hoping you may be able to assist with some questions.

I currently have a Renault (i'm a nice person honest) megane r26, which to be honest has been a fantastic car, but the recent arrival of our beautiful baby daughter has led me to look at options to get me a bit more practicality.

Step up the Octavia vrs, i've always been aware of the car but have to admit i hadn't looked at it that closely. Ok test drive booked so that could change things, but from first impressions the quality is excellent, the boot is huge and from reviews and figures it looks like it should still provide the driving pleasure i want while giving us plenty of room for baby stuff.

For me it will be a manual, i just never have liked the idea of a auto even a DSG. But what about the petrol verses the diesel, heart says petrol, head says diesel. Any advice as to which is best, or any options you think are must haves.

I, like you, previously drove a Renault (Laguna).. I too am a nice person (honest)

I went for the Octavia Elegance 1.6 Tdi - nice motor..

Options I got were:

Black Magic paint

4 spoke MFSW with Radio controls

Maxidot

As a parent - dark coloured interior is a MUST..

An absolute must is the Maxidot, so much stuff you can do with it, and after it's been in for a Vag Com session, so much more you can do with it.

I tried to pick the options that couldn't be retrofitted or wasn't that easy / cost effective to retrofit.

so the next round of mods for me are bluetooth and Columbus HeadUnit.

Followed by sun blinds / tints - not sure which yet and Dog Guard.

Welcome to the forum...best place to start looking for info I reckon. There's a couple of threads on petrol v diesel in the Octavia secton that would be worth looking at. Mine's a diesel so that's my point of view but others like the petrol. Depends on the mileage you do really. The boot is vast on both the estate and the hatch and reliability is excellent. Don't get carried away with the options...but asking here is a bad start as everyone will tell you to spec everything...

I can see the appeal of the diesel but the 'petrol head' in me is always drawn to the quieter higher reving petrol. Will try and get a go in both though
